We hired Angel Quinones of DTC Remodel to install hardwood floors in the bedroom of our condo.  He demanded payment of half up front and started work 2-06-12.  We began questioning the quality of the work fairly early on (was supposed to be a 4 day project ... took 2 weeks), when the guy installing the floors (not Angel) told us Angel didn't bother to get the better grade plywood (goes under the cork and flooring as required in condo bldgs) that would have made the floors lower to the ground.  Angel and the installer refused to fix the flooring when the piece nearest the entry (despite specific instruction to do it otherwise) was installed the WRONG DIRECTION and Angel didn't bother to install grading for the transitions between the wood and tile (we had to beg for these - and they were installed poorly - see later comment - not leveled and not as requested).

What really bothered me, though, was that when I suggested Angel might not have used the right specs for the floor, he disappeared ... only to show up at the condo management office ASKING FOR A COPY OF THE SPECS (we sort of thought he would have checked this BEFORE installing).  When I wanted to explain the problems with the flooring to him in person - not just over the phone or via e-mail (re wrong way boards, lack of transitions, visibly split/cracked boards used), Angel was LATE arriving (and I had to explain to him that to pay for all this crap, I HAVE to go to work).

Angel then attempted to install baseboard that was very dark (and didn't match the flooring), which over the phone (I was at work) he claimed was the "same stain in the can."  Luckily, we were wising up to his antics and made him show us what he was doing.  He had earlier promised that the baseboard would be an "exact" match to what we had in the living room.  Angel later trumped up some story that the manufacturer of that board was out of business ... and only after we threatened to withhold payment did he "find" the right baseboard.

He then tried to leave us with a one (1) inch jut without any sort of transition from the tile floor to the hardwood (which even his own installers said was necessary).  We made him install these as the one inch jut was a hazard and clearly unsafe.

Upon installing the "right" baseboard, we realized his flooring installer had not cut the boards correctly.  There were several areas that had gaps, were patch, chipped and looked badly worn for being "brand new."  We complained and he said it would fix it.  Every night we came home, it wasn't "fixed."

After a yelling match on 2-17-12, Angel quit, said "keep your money" and said he would not finish per our specifications ... hours later he sent me an invoice for $1,900 + for the "work" performed by "DTC Remodel" ... which of course, could not be found as a registered business entity in the state, county or city.

The accusations are 100% true.  I can provide all documentation of the events.  Upon request, I will post additional photos taken and reports from the contractor we were REQUIRED to hire to fix the terrible job performed by Angel (contractor) and DTC Remodel (unregistered company).

To the public:
My company is DTC Remodel. I have been doing business for more than 30 years in the Chicago area and the surrounding suburbs. I remodeled the house of the individual that is making these false accusations 4 years ago and never had any problems. We followed all the guidelines of the building management and everything was fine with them too. She forgot to say that we also fixed her walls and ceilings which we didn't get paid for and after trying to solve her problem it was useless. I have hundreds of references that will vouch for my great work and they are all happy customers. If what this individual has falsely said about me has made her have peace with herself let her make a another list.
