Below is an outline of how East Cost Mechanical, Inc. (ECM)is running a home warranty scam
Scam scenario:
1.They sell the warranty to someone and collect $300.
2.If nothing goes wrong and they never hear from the customer, they make money for nothing.
3.If something does go wrong, they tell the customer that certain type of repair is not covered under the warranty and say didn't you read the fine print on the contract?
4.At this point the customer will either pay for the repair or opt to have the contract canceled. If they opt to have the contract canceled ECM will prorate and subtract the service call amount (which they will make as close to the contract amount as they can) from the contract amount and refund the difference. They make money no matter what happens and never have to pay for costly repairs themselves.
5.They also benefit because when something goes wrong there company gets first chance to make money instead of the competitors. They will always be able to charge for the first service call if the customer cancels contract and make money on the service call if he does not cancel the contract. This is a win, win, win situation for them!!!!!!!!!!!
