East Coast Wholesale operates as a direct importer across the United States in scooters, generators, golf carts, and other specialty items. As a company they are striving to keep growing by adding new dealers to their distribution family. Owner, Craig McKinney, stated the following about his vision for distribution, "we started with a handful [of dealers] now we are up to 41. My vision is to get more dealers and distribute more product." Leads for East Coast Wholesale are generated through several different avenues including dealers, their personal website, and advertising on EBay as well as Amazon. The sales process is, "very simple." Consumers can access all the products they offer online, and have access to 24 hour customer service support. Their straightforward website offers an excellent understanding of East Coast Wholesale's products as well as shipping procedures.

CUSTOMER CARE & COMPLAINT RESOLUTION – EAST COAST WHOLESALES

During the onsite interview Mr. McKinney was asked to describe a situation where a client was not satisfied with the level of service they received. Mr. McKinney expressed that their most common complaint arises when there is shipping damage to a product, " unfortunately UPS is not always careful with packages." In order to combat this East Coast Wholesale performs a thorough inspection of their product before it is shipped to the customer, "we do a double inspection, because we try and make sure it's perfect before we ship it out."



When asked to comment on complaints posted on Ripoff Report's website Mr. McKinney stated that he believes some of them were placed by competitors, while the others from customers they attempted to help, but these customers still placed complaints. Mr. McKinney went on to describe the lengths that East Coast Wholesale will go through to ensure customers are happy with their services, "we do our best to get it [product] back or give some kind of compensation...our best response to that is just to get it back, replace it, or give them their money back. STATEMENT FROM EAST COAST WHOLESALES:

This was a case of replacing battery 3 different times for the customer. Somehow, not sure from the enviroment he lived in or how he was riding the machine, but he kept getting corrosion on the batterys months after we kept replacing them. We should have learned by the second battery replacement we did for him that we should have just got the scooter back and refunded all his money because we kept trying to fix the problem and it kept coming back up the same issue.


NOW TO THE ORIGINAL REPORT THAT WAS FILED

My nightmare with this company started at the begin of June/2014.  I received a 1200 watt scooter ($629).  This scooter is listed as their top of the line scooter. Once I opened the box I noticed that the battery pack (essentially 3 small batteries wired together) The first thing I noticed was the terminal on the last battery was completely covered with corrosion and the eye over the terminal was cracked half way through which finally cracked all the way through within 6 days of owning it rendering the scooter useless since there was no longer any contact.  

I contacted the company the first time on June 9th, 2014 and explained the problem.  I was told to go buy a new eye, screw, and silicone to replace the broken piece.  Which I thought was a bit bizarre due to the fact that I had just spent $629 on a brand new scooter and I was already out money within 6 days of owning it, but I did and I was up and running again.  

Fast forward to July 21, 2014..same problem.  The exact same terminal has corrosion and destroyed the eye over the terminal and the screw again leaving the scooter useless because there was no contact.  I contacted the company once again and explained that I had a mechanic look at it and he heard a buzzing noise coming from the defective terminal.  I was told by the company that they would send me "1" battery. Not the whole battery pack just "1" small replacement battery.  

Once I received the battery i wired up the new battery to the 2 existing batteries and again I was up and running.

Well wouldn’t you know it by September 19th, 2014 I was contacting the company again to tell them that the new battery they had sent me was also doing the same thing as the old defective battery was doing.  The same terminal on the battery was corroding and destroying the eye over the terminal and screw.  

The response I received from the company was "it was build up due to humidity"..and to "brush it off"...there is one thing called build up..there is a whole other name to this and it corrosion.  Build up does not destroy the eye and the screw.  

They then  told me "you may return the battery and we will replace it one last time".. As if they were doing me a "favor" for sending me a defective product since day one.  

What i did next was decide to document what was going on with the battery.  I put a new eye over the terminal and new screw.  Did NOT place the battery back in the scooter, did NOT charge it and let it sit in a clement control home from September 19th, 2014 thru October 26th, 2014 and took pictures of it on 9/19/14, 10/9/14, and again 10/26/14 and you can see clearly in the pictures that the eye and the screw are falling apart.  Which will render them useless in another week or so. 

I also took it a step further and had not one but two certified mechanics stop by my home and look at the battery pack and they both said the same thing (on separate days and don’t even know each other) they said and I quote "The battery pack is defective, you are going to continue having problems with the pack.  It doesn’t matter is you replace just 1 battery the whole pack is defective.  The wiring system is faulty at best, but you need a new ENTIRE battery pack."

I then contacted the company again on October 26th, 2014 and told them they need to replace the entire battery pack.  I sent them the pictures and explained the whole situation along with what the mechanics said and the companies response was "

"looks like water or humidity got a hold of the terminal.  to get any corrosion off you put baken soda on the corrosion, then put water on it. it will wash off

 thanks"

Lol as if the battery pack had even left my home since September 19th.  The terminal was not wet..the battery pack has been sitting in a clement control home since the new eye and screw were placed in it. The battery pack was not used and not even charged it just sat inside my home with nothing interfering with it for over a month and in that time the terminal has been destroying the eye and the screw.

 They do not want to replace the defective battery pack.  At best they are trying to put a band aid on their faulty batteries. They could have taken care of this back on June 9, 2014 by just replacing it but they made me go out of pocket and then made me jump through hoops for the last 5 months.  

 Every time you call their office no one picks up.  Every time you ask for someone to call you back they won’t. They only want to communicate through email.  They will do their best to avoid actually talking to anyone. Especially a disgruntle costumer.

 BTW as far as the scooter goes...it does not go faster than 25 tops (I'm a women and I'm not fat...that video they put up to show how fast the scooter goes is bogus...we did the same test and the scooter toped out at 25) It is heavy duty and seems that it will last a while (all steel) but what’s the point in owning a 110LB scooter if it doesn't run because they are selling faulty batteries to run them.

 Lastly i would like to add that i own motorcycles, dirt bikes, and ATV's.  I fully understand what is required to keep these recreational vehicles running.  This scooter as become a total and complete nightmare.  i wish i had never purchased it and never have dealt with this less then professional company.

 PS. I am also making a youtube video to show all my pictures and emails with this company.  I believe people need to know the truth about them and hopefully they will stay clear and not buy anything from them.

First off I recieved this scooter June/2014 and stared having problems with the battery "6" days after recieving it.  They expected me to buy all the nessesary items to fix it..which I did (out of my own pocket).   The problem still persisted and they sent me a single battery to replace the bad one...the problem still persisted....

 

So lets just trump what they said there..."This costomer was sent many free parts..."... I got "1" single small battery replacement which still never fix anything....Mind you I have PROOF!!!!  I've had problems with this battery pack since I recieved it...the battery pack should have been replaced within a week of owning the scooter, but they refused and only wanted to put a band-aid on the problem....No where in my emails or this report have I ever admitted to over charging the battery for over 8 hours or even got it wet...the battery pack has sat in my home and does not sit outside...ever....so that's just more lies from this company to cover there unprofessional tracks.  The battery pack has not been charged in almost 2 months....it hasnt been placed back in the scooter either..and the terminals are still disintegrating to this day...the battery pack system is defective.

 

My second to last email to them was for them to send me a new battery pack and i would send back the defective battery pack along with return postage and they said NO..and told me the the terminals were just probably wet somehow..and to use baking soda to dry them out.  MIND YOU I HAVE PROOF ALL THIS IS IN EMAILS....I told them that was not good enough and I would be reporting them on the internet for selling bad scooters.  

There last email to me was sent to me AFTER i posted my report here on ripoffreport....

As you can clearly see they had no intention of REPLACING the battery back as they stated just "fixing" it and returning the same defective battery pack to me....and they also NEVER told me they would OVERRIDE any warranty...no mention of any warranty was EVER made through any emails...MORE LIES..
 
I already mentioned to them if they want to fix this problem they could SEND me a new battery pack and I would return the defective battery back in the same box they sent me the new one and they would be responsible for paying for any return postage since I refuse to keep coming out of pocket on a NEW scooter I recieved in June/2014 and spent $629 dollars on and have been spending money on after only 6 days of owning it.
 
This company could have just avoid this whole thing by just sending me a new battery pack and sending proper return postage for the defective one.  They didnt want to they kept avoiding there responsibilty in this whole matter.  Now they are trying to cover there own tracks with more lies and try to convince people that there product truly doesnt SUCK.
 
Please also let me point out how out of touch these people are...I have been in email contact with them for OVER 5 months and they have seen my name several times....(mind you i sign my full name..contact info and phone number) they are still calling me "HIM" I'm a female...my name is a FEMALE's name!!! What losers!!!
 
They refuse to have a phone conversation and will only talk to you through email...not to mention they NEVER answer there phones...good luck with ever getting this company on the phone for costomer service....
 
I really hope this company keeps telling their lies because I'm going to post every single email I have from them to discredit what they are saying...there whole rebuttal was a lie...I HAVE PROOF...I have emails from day 1 with this company and all my responses to what has become a nightmare experiance
 
Do yourself a favor and do not buy from this company...you will regret it you will be right here on ripoffreport posting your report in less then 5 months....
 
I'm currently looking into a class action law suit against this company...it seems that there are more than a few disgruntle costomers that have also posted reports on here and other places on the net.  The more people we get together the more money we can sue for.....if you would like to join me in a class action law suit please contact me here...and I'll get you in contact with a great attorney I'm talking to in my state.

PS.  To this day (December 2, 2014) this company has NOT sent me a new battery pack.  They have not contacted me by phone (ever) and their last email communication with me was on 10/28/14.  They are beyond unprofessional.

Customer bought scooter in March 2014.  Now it is November 29th 2014.   All scooters have a 90 day waranty.  This customer has been sent many free parts within warranty.  6 months past waranty he starts saying he battery pack is bad.   Well from his emails and his report now,  he has admitted to overcharging (past 8hours) or battery pack got badly wet, in order for terminals on batterys to go bad or overcharging can make a battery bubble.

 

So, once again he has never returned battery pack for replacement.  He is making false claims all over the internet excersising his freedom of speech that is a one sided story and he does not tell anyone he never returned the battery pack for replacement and he fails to say he is 5 months past the free part warranty.  He also decides not to mention that we told him we would OVERIDE the warranty over the last week and he can return the battery pack and we would replace it for FREE.  He fails to mention this also.

 

So now that he fails to mention the facts and us bending over backwards to please this man who only goes to free sites to excersise his freedom of speech, but he never once returns anything.
