Indeed, in the first years of the product (launched in 1998), there were numerous problems with the voice recognition component, so much so that in our new product (launched in 2010) we have eliminated completely the systems attempt to recognize what the child is actually saying (there was a real problem detecting isolated syllables and we have come to think the frustration outweighs the benefit).
Having said that, the old system was rigged in such a way as to pass the student to the next stage after three consecutive failures in pronouncing the desired syllable (as a compromise, since we
encountered a high percentage of system errors in detecting correct utterances), and all that was needed to avoid the frustration was to tell the child (as was then recommended on the companys web site) that the machine did not understand and that he/she did well.
As mentioned above, in 2010 the company launched a new (re-design) of the product which, while being founded on the same phonics methodology, has very little to do with the old version product from a technology standpoint.
And I believe that the reference to the new system is based on past experience with the old system and not after actually testing the new one.
Furthermore, in past years the company had a very clear return policy for refunding due to no satisfaction with the product, and we could not find any request for a refund corresponding to the claims above.
One of the lessons learned from past experience as is reflected in our published articles, guides, and indeed the entire packaging of the products is that we do not recommend letting a child experience the system without parental and/or a tutors guidance. This is why we currently offer two versions of the system identified as Home edition (for parents and their children) and Standard
Edition (for professional tutors and teachers and their students), with a clear emphasis on the need to be with the child throughout the program.
While not trying to diminish in any way the frustration of Kevin from his experience, I believe it is marginally relevant to the offerings of our system launched in 2010 and to the www.skillado.com
website.

This company keeps changing it's name. Now it's Skillado. If you are a good company with good products, you don't keep changing your company name.
