I have been a seller on ebay for several years. In the beginning I really enjoyed selling and meeting new friends. Since ebay decided to give the buyers all the power over the sellers, sadly everyone I know who sold on this site has quit.

The fees charged by ebay and their banking system Paypal are outrageous for the sellers. They have a rating system with stars which actually the biggest problem for sellers. Buyers on a whim can put a really terrific seller out of business with a whim and sellers have no recourse. They change and erase any negative feedback left for buyers from sellers. Everytime you sell an item, you risk losing points and feedback scores, because there is not an accurate rating for buyers.

We are all tired of working hard to sell quality items at low prices with low shipping and then getting slammed by the buyers and Ebay. PLEASE....someone out there...START A NEW AUCTION SITE!!! It would be a goldmine!!!!

i did not like the new policy, of no bad feedback for customers at 1st , because i work hard to be honest. a lot of sellers said it would be bad for us but after 1 yr and over 1000 good feedbacks i have 99.9% i did get 3 bad ones 1 was do to me i did not check the item i sold i was new at that time ok i can live with that one (i did give a refund and let them keep the item that was the fair thing to do) but i did get two more from new customers that did not know how the feed back should work, thay never emiled me or called me just bad feedback and about 2 to 3 weeks later one of them closed the ebay acount so not that bad, but i do what is fair and i get good feedback yes i do give some refund maybe 6 to 9 in the last yr. but i looked at from the customers side all i can say is put the customers 1 st and you will do good, and by the way i like that the customers can be open, so i can see how seller are doing, i buy from too , at this time the new policy is doing what we good sellers and ebay hope it would. it has made ebay safer .

I agree with the last comment, I am a buyer and seller on Ebay and mostly buy items. Before I would always fear receiving a negative in retaliation because I have 100% fb and it would make it harder for me to sell items and make more money also if someone retaliated. I made sure that I bought from sellers with GREAT feedback. A lot of sellers do not like the new policy but I do, because if you are honest you don't have much to worry about. For the exception of an occassional dishonest buyer but I check peoples score often who are bidding on my items. I do agree however that it is so hard to profit on Ebay for a lot of items. There is items that I have barely made profit on. For example I sold a rare doll and made about $10 profit and then $10 shipping. It cost me $13 in shipping and cost like $5 to list including the ending fees. Plus I had to get the box, I found at my moms work or I would have had to buy the box and not including the bubble wrap I paid for. I litterally made no money from that sell and waisted time and gas driving to the PO. I have made little profits on rare thrift store finds but not much at all. One time when selling a Playstation 2 BIN a person commited to buy and never paid, this person has 0 feedback and I was charged a fee for selling which was finally given back by Ebay because the person did not pay for it. Now when selling items BIN style I require an immediate payment. Now I am less hassled by non paying buyers and if doing an auction style I always check who is bidding to see if they are reliable and I have less trouble now. I do agree that Ebay does need to go down on there selling fees. I listed a sofa and loveseat microfiber NEW a while back that I was planning on using as it was new in storage and only had 2 bids, my starting bid was $300 pick up only and it ended at my winning $305.00. The buyer paid via Paypal instead of cash in person and it was a new ebayer but she was reliable. Paypal and Ebay charged me a LOT, about $50 I don't know exactly how much but it was rediculous plus the sofa set was valued at $1,100 and I have 100% feedback. I should have just put cash on pickup instead of also giving the option to pay via Paypal also. Anyway plus the lady and her husband drove 2 hours to get it and she did not make prior arrangements to let me know when she would arrive and they called me letting me know they were almost here (in my area) and wanted directions. I am glad I was home or they could have drove here for nothing. I had wrote her after she won to call me for prior arrangements. I was about to leave for work and was actually 15 minutes late waiting for them. Then I have to worry about getting a negative ot rip off buyers that threaten my fb just to make money. So far I have had great buyers! I have not had any buyers to leave a negative or threaten feedback. My scores are 5.0 in all catgories, accept shipping fees which is 4.7 stars and I have only charged actual shipping fees and sometimes less or free shipping. Post office rates are crazy and that is also making it hard to sell. Some bigger sellers can make more money because they have an Ebay store and it costs less for sellers who sell a lot "powersellers" but my friend lost money so she had to take her store down. I had only had to leave one negative on an item I rec'd packaged horribly and the seller would not let me return item nor partial refund, etc. It was a nightmare dealing with this women. She posted blogs about me and also reported me to ebay for NO reason. She fowarded my emails that I wrote to her which btw were not at all nasty. Ebay said not to write to her again. She basically wrote to me and said she would keep bugging or harrassing me until I remove the negative. I did not write her back again in fear she would keep fowarding my emails to ebay. She had about 150 feedbacks and only one negative by me. I scared getting kicked off EBay for no reason. I decided to write a blog also asking for help and she saw my blog and reported it to ebay to request it to be removed. I had another ALERT with Ebay. Okay all of this was pure h*ll and then I regreted even given her the negative. I am glad that I did though. Now she has a few more negatives. Recently I left a negative with this guy who I purchased insurance for an items which arrived broken. Here is the deal. It was packaged good but the top to the teapot was in the side of the box and had fell out of the phoam and rattling in the box. It was not that the USPS damaged it or that it was packaged bad either. He packaged it pretty good but overlooked the top. It is just that the top of the teapot was in the side of the phoam and of course could have easily fallen out and it did. I wrote the seller explaining the situation. I gave him several options. I asked if he had another top to the teapot he could send or if he would let me send it back or partial refund, etc. I told him I would prefer another lid to my top. He said it needed a claim with insurance. I again explained that it was his own fault and not at all damaged by usps. Anyway he said to email him a picture of the broken lid and he would send me another one. I did that and then emailed him back and then he totally changed his mind and that he would send a message thru my email and not to ebay. I wondered why. I then waited for his email to explain why. Anyway he wrote me a long horrible NASTY and long message to my email address (not thru ebay). I was so upset about it. He then said to go ahead and leave him a positive feedback and he would send the top and said that I was crooked, etc.. I refused to leave feedback until I rec'd it and promiced I would leave a positive when I rec'd it. I told him that in my responce so he refused to help me at all. Paypal and Ebay was no help either! I left him a negative after days of dealing with him and just trying to work out a COMPRIMISE. He did have about 120 fb and a score of 100 but then it rapidly went down to 99.3 after about 3 or 4 more negatives. Pay Pal claims to help buyers but they really don't!

First off I've been a registered seller and buyer on e-bay since 2004 and have 100% feedback. I think all should be aware that e-bay has only been around since 1995 not quite your 20 years that you claim to be selling there. This information is on the web for anyone who is interested in finding it. E-bay is still a great venue for honest sellers. The fact that we cannot leave negative feedback for buyers can be frustrating but if you truly try your best to keep your customers happy there is no need for it as e-bay does protect sellers against unfair and retaliatory feedback. Just wanted to set the record straight.

eBay is taking advantage of its monopoly position and get basically get away with whatever it wants to. Strangely enough, in our capitalistic economy, no rivals have emerged to challenge eBay....Yahoo failed with its auction site...the others are just insignificant. I guess it takes too much money to challenge eBay/Paypal.

While I wouldn't quite classify this as a ripoff...

I agree. In an effort to assure buyers, eBay has made it difficult for the sellers. The fees are just ridiculous. I made a $1 profit from selling a $330 item and the Paypal fee (Paypal was required) ate that up and I actually sold the item at a loss. I put the item at a higher price, but then it would be more expensive than the buyers could get it at a store. Then there is the shipping. You don't want a buyer to claim fraud, so you go for a pricier service such as delivery confirmation. The higher shipping costs either scare the buyer away or the buyer thinks the shipping was unreasonable and rates you accordingly.
