You didn't get scammed by Ebay, but some a**hole Nigerian most likely. What happens is when you bid on a car, anyone can send you a 'Second Chance Offer'. These pricks have the Ebay logos and web site pages that look authentic. But, they have absolutely no affiliation. All they have to do is click on the Contact Member button, and send you the offer. HOWEVER, I have noticed that Ebay will also send you notification that you are in jeopardy of being scammed by the person that contacted you. Don't ignore those emails from Ebay, they are sent to protect you. Always be wary of ANY second chance offers, especially if they sound to good to be true. I buy and sell classic cars on Ebay all the time, and have never been stung by a scam. You just have to use common sense. You know you can't buy a 66 Corvette Fulie for $9900.00, yet these a**holes are trying to trick us into thinking we can. NEVER PAY BY WESTERN UNION. Anyone asking for payment by Western Union is a fruad and a scammer. NO EXCEPTIONS. There are good deals to be had on Ebay, but you have to use common sense and caution. If you aren't sure what to do, ask someone, friend, relative, boss... just for a second opinion. And Denny, give it a rest. Ebay isn't the culprit. There is no way to stop the scammers, no matter what web/auction site you are on. As long as there are suckers, there will always be scammers.

I have bought a vehicle off of ebay. I protected myself by bringing the payment (certified bank check) with me to purchase the vehicle. By doing that I made sure I got the vehicle and they got their money. Hard to cut and run when it's done that way. Try contacting your credit card company as most have buyer protection.

CAVEAT emptor.
Why are you buying a car on Ebay anyway? Biggest scams invovled cars, computers, laptops, cell phones, and the like.
When you bid on anyones auction, you are entering into a contract, and the seller can look up your information to see if you are serious, or of course to scam you.
