In response to the ECPI employee who commented on 12/10/11 (& for some reason, I think I know who you are)...three years later! I can understand your hesitation in posting your thoughts...it must be very difficult for you...you must of attended ECPI.
I have no doubt ECPI had their 'papers' in order to fire me. You gave me unrealistic goals to set in a less than 3 week period-eliminating days of work due to some ECPI social event at the Culinary Institute as well as pre-surgical appointments that I had already set up & 'ECPI' knew about. I had also completed all of my 'LOA' paperwork through personnel and of course all of the boss' knew of my upcoming surgery & the intensity of it (opening up my skull).
The bottom line is that any of these so called "caring, educated staff" could have told me face to face about firing me instead of calling me while I was IN SURGERY and leaving me a voice mail message. I can even understand the phrase "business is business" but do any of you people have a heart that beats? The way you people did this was just wrong. WRONG.
I volunteered to work the midnight shift at ECPI and if I called 911 in regards to what was going on in that office when the sun went down...OMG! Jail time for such an educated, caring individual!
I didn't give ECPI another thought after, oh, November 2008 or so. I wrote my letter and posted my experience to make others aware of the care ECPI has for people = students.
Regarding your comment about a lawyer...my Attorney practiced strictly in malpractice. A much, much more lucrative practice, in my case anyway!

Virginia is indeed an at will employment state. However, employers are cautious about firing employees, and this was a considered, multi-person executive decision. ECPI carefully considered the employee/school/student welfare and arrived at the hard but necessary conclusion. None of the allegations made by the poster have ever been brought to civil or criminal court. Virginia does not have a shortage of attorneys taking valid causes to court.

I was invited to attend an Employment Open House at ECPI Va. Beach on 5/14. I was wondering what type of work Christine did for them. The position I applied for was Administrative Assistant. I don't want to work for a company that isn't professional or ethical. Thank you for any input. Diane

Thank you for replying to my Ripoff Report. To be honest, this is the first time I have looked at it since I filed this! It was something I had to do for me--regardless. ECPI does not tell you about pricing because they teach the sales people to sell all the stuff first- then drop the $50k price tag. Jacksonville response can contact me at (((ROR REDACTED))) Thank you & I am in a firm believer in "what comes around goes around"!! Sorry to hear about all you went through with ECPI - and your illness. I wasn't aware that Virginia was a "fire at will" state - thank you for that information. But honestly - it certainly sounds like you have all your documentation - and information - seems like it would benefit you to check into a lawyer. I know a lot of people in the United States are "sue happy" - and tend to turn to a lawyer for a spilled hot cup of coffee...but in my opinion - just reading what you wrote, it certainly sounds like you have a valid case aganist ECPI. Sorry also to hear that you worked for ECPI. I've heard nothing but bad things about them (as I previously posted). I still have been unable to get a straight answer from anyone there. What is the cost of 1 credit - tuition - and DO I have to sign a contract? Seems to me if a company isn't willing to answer those simple questions - people in general should STAY AWAY. Best of luck to you Christina. I pray you are feeling better soon and things work out in your life.
