The garage door opener at my mother's house stopped working. She is elderly and retired. Eddie's Door and Locks charged her nearly $1000 to install a new garage door opener. The garage door opener they installed is a Lift Master Belt Drive 1/2 hp model 8355 which retails for $170. But they claimed cost $500 with installation.
They also charged her another $500 to replace the main torsion springs on the garage door which did not need to be replaced. Two torsion springs cost about $80 a piece. The prices these guys charge are outrageous. These guys are criminals who are preying on the elderly and people who don't know any better. They need to be put out of business.

Or just admit its called CAPITOLISM!!!! YOUR MOTHER chose the people to do the work which means she accepts the prices. She COULD have gotten a written estimate and shopped around. Sorry to tell you this but if YOU have never changed out a door spring then YOU have no place to talk. YOU probably went ONLINE to look at prices and online and a retail market are TWO DIFFERENT price structures. Meaning ONLINE is cheaper. So YOU cant sit there and CLAIM that your mother was ripped off. Im sure if you call around you will see that the price she paid was the AVERAGE for replacing a garage door opener and the door springs. It ALWAYS amazes me at how quickly people like YOU will hop up and CLAIM that their parent is being taken advantage of, yet WHERE WERE YOU?? Isnt it YOUR JOB to ensure YOUR parents don't get ripped off?? Oh that's right!! SO MUCH EASIER to place the blame on someone else then to ADMIT that YOU failed to protect them. Get over yourself there princess. Its called CAPITOLISM!!! If you don't like it, then I suggest you go someplace that DOESNT have a free and open market where the customer gets to CHOOSE who they wish to shop with. NOT a scam and NOT a ripoff. If YOU feel that THEY have been ripped off then I would suggest to YOU that YOU take over the job of getting things fixed at their home. Otherwise YOUR PARENTS who despite what YOU may think, are going to continue to make choices as every other American citizen does. They are ELDERLY, NOT DEAD!!!! What makes YOU think that YOUR PARENTS are not smart enough to handle their own business?? YOU will be surprised at how intelligent and WISE they are. Thankfully THEY have a remedy against those people LIKE YOURSELF who THINK that they get to put their opinion out on a media outlet WITHOUT having to pay for it. What YOU have done is defamation and the company YOU have defamed would be well within their rights to take YOU to court for WHAT you have written.
