This company is a total RIP OFF! They are over priced. They DO NOT install next day. They subcontract local carpet installers and sellers to do the installation. They do awful installation work, and the people who installed my carpet couldn't even speak a lick of English so I did't have a clue what they were talking about.

I had carpet installed in my house in July of 2004 and 6 months later while vacuuming a seam came up and pulled out of the carpet which left a huge "bald spot". I was told my a professional carpet installer recently that it was due to improper installation and there have been several other areas that have recently came up and could easily be pulled out but we have to trim them down to prevent this obviously something you would not expect with 6 month old carpet.

When we first reported this after several attempts they came out and took neasurements and in not very good english stated that their boss would contact us and setup a time to fix the carpet. After 2 months of trying to get some kind of action we spoke to empire and they said they would put an urgent work order on this, NEVER happened.

So we tried and tried and finally got in touch with someone again and said that they would send someone out to fix the carpet which ended up being the same people they took measurements again and said that their boss would contact us. This time I got his number and name, and after 2 weeks of not hearing anything we called him and he said he didn't know what we were talking about.

Now this was only a few weeks ago that we incountered this and wouldn't you know it, it just so happens that our 12 month installation guarantee has ran out and there is nothing they can do about this. So in short I want to warned everyone out there to stay away from these people. The bank that they use for their financing even told us that they have had so many people to complain to them because they can't get in touch with anyone else to complain to so that should tell you something there.

We finally had to pay someone to fix our carpet because we are selling our house and looking back I wish that I had gone locally instead of using these con artist. BEWARE!

The Truth About Large Flooring Chains

#2Consumer Comment

Tue, December 06, 2005

Empire Carpet is a large retail flooring concern based in Chicago, Illinois. It has established a large national sales force that can reach just about any address in the country and arrange an installation. Materials may be shipped from a local retailer, the mills in Georgia, any just about anywhere they can be procured. Local installers are then called in to finish the job. It is very likely a customer will not get the level of service they would from a local dealer who not only has to share the same community with the potential customer, but knows exactly who they are sending to install their product. Also, Carpet 1, Advance, GCO and Stone Mountain, now know as Floor Trader are all components of a company called CCA Global Partners headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. This $8 Billion a year monolith of a company also operates ProSource outlets. When you look into their pricing structure you might want to ask yourself why you are paying so much more at one of their locations vs. what you would be charged at another for the exact same product. As for ProSource which claims to be wholesale, it is not and all their prices are marked up 30% over actually mill pricing and it is not likely CCA is not getting a tremendous discount for their volume from the mills. Make your best deal with your local flooring dealer. You will save money, time and hassle and will likely have a responsible vendor instead of a massive company thousands of miles away with little or no concern for your job.

Better you than me

Well I just hope that you don't have any problems that you need fixed and maybe you were one of the lucky ones who actually had someone come to your home that knew what they were doing whatever the case the ones who installed my carpet didn't speak English and when a professional installer did come out and fix my carpet he said the reason it tore was due to faulty installation. As I said before many people I have spoken with have said that they had a bad experience with Empire and by the way if I had had the person who fixed my carpet do the installation it would have cost me almost half of what I paid Empire so they are over priced also if you feel comfortable recommending these people to your friends and family all I have to say is better you than me. I wouldn't wish that kind of aggravation on my enemies much less the people close to me.

Positive Empire Today Experience

#4Consumer Comment

I was checking this site out to look up another company and decided since I had just had work done by Empire Today I would check and see if there were any reports on them. I know I should have done it before I bought from them, but better late than never as my Grandmother used to say. I would like to say taht I had a great experience with Empire Today when they recently installed carpeting in my home. Their installers were professional, courteous and quick. I'm extremely satisfied with the product and the installation. Maybe Crystal, you just were unlucky enough to run across one of those rare bad experiences from what seems to me, at least to me, a great company. I would recommend them to all my family and friends.

Too Late

#5REBUTTAL Individual responds

It is too late now because I have already had to pay a PROFESSIONAL installer who came out and fixed the problem that your company refused to do anything about, and he could number one speak English and number 2 could understand what I was saying and worked for himself and was not a contractor so he actually tookk pride in his work he said that my carpet tore up due to bad installation and the carpet being stratched beyond it's limit. It's kind of funny how no one wanted to talk to me or my husband about the matter and after they came out to measure twice until the one year warranty was up and then we were told it was no longer covered which I thought was just so convenient. By the way I'm not the only customer who has had a bad experience with your company in the Maryland area when we went to pay off our loan the guy at Equity loan told us that he has customers come in to their office all the time and making complaint thinking that they are some how associated with you guys, and he said they complain to him because they can never get in touch with the right person and like us are always redirected over and over again to different people so that might tell you that you may need to look into your contractors you have doing your work for you if you want to keep up your reputation if not then keep them it doesn't matter to me I have sold the house and now live in NC and I will never use or refer others to use Empire ever again.
