Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I am a college graduate currently working in construction sales.  Having found a legitimate local job on craigslist before I was searching for jobs when I came across Energy Saving Solutions post promising high dollar sales.  Seeing their website and ease of accessing them via telephone I called them up for more details.

I got in touch with Doug Catero. After briefly asking me about my experience (and not bothering to ask any details about my experience) he launched into his sales pitch about how I could sell their product and how they had a staff of engineers to back me up on proposals etc..  He promised to email me the Independent Sales Representative contract (Which looked Legit and is similar to actual contracts I have signed with real companies in the past.

The first thing that struck me as odd was that he was ready to bring me on-board with zero interview. Second, he was asking for money. My commission only sales jobs in the past provided me with business cards, sales material, and access to business systems at no cost.  When I got the email from him it started to become very clear that this was a joke. He promised to have business cards made with me listed as the "Regional Vice President".  What legit company is willing to have someone that they have not even interviewed or asked for a resume represent their company as Vice President?

Now don't get me wrong...their sales pitch is good and the product seems great.  But it bothered me that there was no specific information on their actual product available, and there was no solid list of reference jobs.  I called Doug to ask about this, and he hemmed and hawed and tried to change the subject.  I asked him how was I supposed to know he was not a scam when he couldn't even send me any informational material in the mail and could not give me a list of reference jobs. He said I should look at their website and the fact that their President and CEO had their pictures posted on the site was somehow supposed to give me every confidence in the world.  LOL what a joke. I told him at that point that I would research the company further and contact him if I was interested.

Thanks to the original user who posted...you saved me $470! Of course I wasn't about to hand over my money...I knew that something was wrong.  But thank you for clarifying it so quickly!

@"Should Have been looking for a job"

If there was any indication that this was a legitimate company (say a reference list of completed or pending jobs, literature on the product offered, ANY information at all other than "pay me $500 and you will be able to log into our webinar next tuesday") I would have been much more inclined to take a risk.

For those of you wishing to do any type of sale or business dealing in general: the first rule taught in a college public speaking course (or high school course for that matter) is that you must establish your credibility to speak on a given subject. Only when you have established credibility do you deserve to be listened to and taken seriously.

However when a supposed "big business" with "$14mil in the pipeline" can only point to the fact that their CEO has his picture on their website as proof of credibility than you begin to smell a scam. And when a single google search reveals a very detailed account of a ripped off individual at the hands of the same company....1+1=2 and not $$$$.

On another note...and one I find quite humorous..."Doug" called me back a week or so ago to see if I was still interested in paying him any money. If I hadn't been busy doing something productive/not ripping people off like he does all day, I would have had a much more in depth conversation with him.  As it was though I didn't have the time so I simply said "I did my research and I think you are a scam. Please do not call me again." He simply said "Ok, sorry about that" and hung up. No rebuttal, no request for more information on why I felt this way, no trying to defend himself. Take it as you will, but to me that is just the icing on the cake.

Sounds Like you should have been looking for a "job" not an independent contractor

I too have been in sales for many years. Many of them as an independent contractor. You are in business for yourself. There is nothing wrong with up front reasonable costs. Sounds like to me you should have been looking for a salaried  job. You didnt even work the business but filed a complaint? Maybe it was you why you didnt get straight answers? good luck finding a job.
