On March 17th, I rented a car from the downtown Atlanta Georgia office for personal use.  First, while in the office, the employees went into the managers office behind closed doors on two occasions including the associate who was assisting me.  Seemed odd, what would they need to do behind closed door.  I inquired to turning the car in when arriving to my destination due to me not needing it.  My friend was going to show me around Charleston, SC.  I would then rent another to return to Georgia.  I was told by the manager there would be a $150 out of state transfer fee.   I then went from one associate to another newer associate.   When we went to get vehicle in question it was entirely covered in a thick layers of pollen.  The area had record pollen and it was apparent the car sat for several days. You could not even see out the windshield.  I was then given the option of renting a full size truck or that car.  Not sure why as I reserved an economy car.  The associate offered to have the car washed if I wanted to wait.   Being in a hurry, I trusted they took due diligence and assured me there was no damage upon last return.   During the inspection the associate stooped down and was staring at the left front fender.  I asked him if he saw something and he stated no.  When I got into the car, I had to clean the windshield so I could see out of it. I stopped once on the way to my destination, Goose Creek SC, and the car sat at his residence for the 3 days.  He owns his own home and the car was parked in the driveway to the side the whole time. They had rain and it was then I noticed dings and small push in dents in
the car in the side, fender, hood and roof. Upon return I told them the condition I received it and the damage could not have happened in my possession.  I phoned the Atlanta office and spoke with the manager and he stated it could have been hail but it happened while I had the car.  My cousin picked me up and was not surprised as he also was blamed for damage under a car in which he was not responsible.  He no longer uses or recommends renting from Enterprise.  Today I called the office in Atlanta and received a quote for renting a car for 4 days.  One way from Atlanta to Tampa Florida and returning it in Florida.  I was quoted for an economy car at a cost of $125.26, no out of state transfer fee. Their website even states that a fee may apply but check with independent offices.  I believe this to mean apply when they do not want to lose a couple days rental for a trip.  When not left a choice the fee would double the rental and the fee would not apply.  They are trying to collect over $1600 dollars for the damage.  There is no doubt that this was an intentional deception by this office to pass damage onto a customer and use a fee at their convenience.  It saddens me as I have rented with them many times in the past with no problems but I guess it was a matter of time.  I will never use or recommend Enterprise, it is obvious this is not an isolated case.  I have filed a report with Atlanta BBB.

Damage Recovery Call

#2Author of original report

I received a call today from the damage control at enterprise to discuss the claim.  Nice gentleman at first then steered the conversation to insinuate I drove through a hail storm the day I took it.  He asked me several times if I was sure I did not drive through a hail storm.  Did not even rain the day I took it.  He even stated he had a report that it hailed in South Carolina.  I am sure it did somewhere.  I did my due diligence and according to NOAA, I trust them, there was no hail any where near where I was located.    He also stated the car was returned just the night before and there was no damage upon return.    I rented it at 1130 the next afternoon.  The thick green gunk was not from overnight.  There was not another vehicle in their lot that had a thick layer of pollen.   He also stated they checked the previous 4-5 rentals with no reports of damage.  My insurance has requested these and yet to receive them.  After reading similar reports I am believing this is a company wide practice.
