I attempted to be civil and cordial with ePassporte after learning the company had charged over $1,000 on my debit card. The first individual with whom I spoke asked me, of all things, for my credit card number! Supposedly this is the only method that their "fraud prevention" deparment has to track any fraudulent activity. Call me crazy but I am not about to give any of my account information (although I had to cancel the account, of course) to the company that just deprived me of $1,000...

I let myself calm down a bit and called back approximately 30 minutes later. The gentleman with whom I spoke had the audacity to tell me how secure their system was and how the problem must be with my bank, for ePassporte verifies every transaction. I attempted to persue this discussion further and after a few moments of semantic wrangling he finally admitted that all ePassporte actually does is verify that such a card exists. They have no actual way of knowing who is using a card or whether that card is stolen.

I was also informed that there is a "fraud prevention" department but of course they are not available for any human interaction. If only I would give ePassporte my debit card number again they could put in a ticket number and sometime between now and the next Ice Age someone would get back to me. Knowing the drill, I followed the advice of many and filed complaints with both the FBI and FTC. As a law school student I am A) too broke and B) too aware of my rights to let this go quitely.

If you have not already done so, contact your bank and file a fraud affidavit for the charges so that they can investigate it and help get back your money. Good luck.
