My husband when to Christus St. Michael in Texarkana, Texas yesterday. The attending Doctor, Erik Jacobson came into the room and asked what seemed to be the problem. My husband explained his symptoms and was interrupted with, I'm an ER Doctor, I can't help you. He later asked my husband if he was dying, when my husband answered no, he again told my husband that he was there to save people from dying, only.

We were shocked. Without being able to explain completely what my husband has been through in the past month, and the fact that his regular Doctor told him to go to the ER, we were met with rudeness and anger. I asked the Doctor if there were any specialist that could help my husband. He said he would see what he could do and left the room.

Thirty minutes later a very rude attending nurse comes back in and hands my husband his Emergency Department Discharge Instructions. She explained that Dr. Jacobson had written a prescription for pain, and that the number listed is a number for a Dr. ---. She did not explain who Dr. --- was, or if he was even a specialist.

I have never in my life encountered such disregard for someone who considered their pain great enough as an emergency, to be treated in this manner.

Should we have had his regular Doctor call the ER? What about proof of the MRI he had last week? Should we have had the Chiropractor that he has been seeing call as well?

When we arrived home we noticed on the papers they had checked that X-Rays were taken. No one spoke to us for longer than five minutes, much less did an X-Ray.

I once was forced to go to the ER, because I was injured at work. The doctor LOOKED at my knee and compared it's swelling to the other one, (I had mentioned that due to a severe injury my left knee was smaller than my right one and it was my left knee that was injured) and he rolled his eyes at me. I do not blame the nurses (for the most part for this.) But when they told me it was just a sprained knee (when I asked for crutches) and to stop trying to make a big deal out of nothing. BTW I did have torn caritilege in my knee, and needed surgery to repair it. I am so glad that I got a second opinion before believing them that I made a big deal over NOTHING.
