I went into Everest with the best of intentions especially after the collapse of the economy. I spent $15000 for a Medical Assistant program. I got lucky and got an excellent teacher, however, I cannot say the same for many other students that did not receive the same education I did in other classrooms from teachers that are not even certified nor even there to teach 3 out of 5 days of the week. That is just one issue I have with Everest. My main concern is that I delivered, I was a serious student, I only missed class twice in the eight months I was there and that was because I was in the hospital with diverticulitis. My problem is; I graduated October 23, 2009, did my externship and have yet to get one phone call, text message, email, nothing from Career Services helping me to land a job as an entry level Medical Assistant. As a matter of fact, I have personally went back to my school to get my transcripts or what not and have spoken to these Career Service Employees and asked them what is up?! They can only tell me that they are very overworked and will be working with me soon. Well, that was months ago, here it is February 2010 and I have gone ahead and taken a Phlebotomy Course and will soon be licensed and hopefully get a good job. I have taken my education into my own hands but I can only think of all the money these people have taken from so many well intentioned students only to leave them high and dry! They do not even help you to become certified, you are on your own for that! This College needs to be shut down because of fraud and please stop those insulting commercials...need I go ON?

for profit colleges are NOT worth attending EVEN IF legit

There are simply too many for profit "colleges" - Everest, Phoenix, DeVry, Westwood, etc - that give everyone in the sector a bad name. These days, even if you attended a for profit school that isn't a total ripoff (granted, I've yet to hear of a for-profit "college" that ISN'T a ripoff), employers will still stigmatize you as someone who came out of a degree mill. Its simply too risky for any judicious consumer to attend one of these "colleges".

I would say the only for profit education sector that is not a complete scam is the test prep sector (i.e. preparatory courses for SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, etc). For better or worse, most of the big test prep services are more or less honest about what they offer. They don't guarantee jobs or degrees, & some even give you a refund if your scores do not improve over a previous attempt.

I believe that almost every for-profit college / training company is a rip off.  But you state that they did not help with your certification.  I think that it is probably ok that the certification falls to you unless they tell you that they will somehow help with it - if you study medicine, law or accounting at even the best schools it still falls to the individual to pass the med board / bar exam / cpa exam..  Granted the materials covered in class should relate to the exam - but it is common to spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours prepping for these tests..

As a former victim of one of these skoolz I can assure you that it is NOT your fault that you do not have a job.  I took the hack biz-nass administration course at this place and was promised a job, was told that employers recruited at the school, that they had jobs lined up for as when we graduated etc. etc.   First of all, who was I to think that a 6 month program could compete with a 4-6 year degree at a university IN THE FIRST PLACE!  I should have taken the old saying into consideratin that, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is!  The course material was basic to general HIGH-SCHOOL level material at best, and when I realized what I was "learning" I wanted to quit but the lies about the employers and jobs kept me there.  I had taken some university courses beofre this and thie material at this school was no where near the level of a REAL college or university.  The marketing is bad also.  They should say that they are in the business of retraining people who are liad off or whatever.  It should not be marketed as a replacement for a traditional university or college becasue it is NOT!!!!!  Employers do not hire people from these places and the colleges and universities do NOT take these credits.  I put out 300+ resumes and got not a singles call from any employer.  The school is now omitted from my resume.  I even had to fight with them to get my worthless diploma as they made a mistake and claimed I still had courses to finish(probably in an attempt to get more money)  I was treated poorly and I got nothing out of this but wasted TIME and MONEY.
