I took out a loan with Fairwinds Federal Credit Union in Winter Park FL in 2002 for a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. My payments were $260.00 a month for 5 1/2 years. I was given a book upon the loan being approved with every payment coupon in the book for the life of the loan.  Upon completing all payments for the car, I went to Fairwinds to get my Title put into my name, and they informed me that their computer showed that I still owed nearly $3000.00 for the car. After speaking with several people, no one could explain why their computer was still showing that I owed money, as the could readily see that I had made all of my payments. I told them that they needed to figure out why their computer was still saying I owed money and fix it. They said they would take care of it.

Shortly after that I moved to Texas and for two years had my car insured and registered in Texas. I then moved to Nevada where for another two years I had my car insured and registered there.  Then, I get a letter in the mail more than four years later from Fairwinds threatening to reposess my car ( for which I had already paid them almost $18,000.00) if I didn't pay the nearly $3000. their computer said I owed. I made multiple calls to multiple people at Fairwinds, and none of them could figure out why their computer still said I owed this money. At one point they said I had missed one of my first payments of $260, and that's what led to the $3000 debt. In the middle of trying to get it straightened out with them, they reposessed my car, and sold it at auction .  I was just getting ready to move so I was trapped in a horrible position, with no car.  I moved and called several times trying to get them to work with me, but they would not.

Today, I pulled up my credit report and it says that my last payment to them was in 2010 when really it was years before that, so the whole thing should be off of my credit report. Also, they reported to the credit bureau that my loan term was $260 a month for 82 months, when it was really for 66 months .  I did the math and figured out that they had to change the number of months to make up for the nearly $3000. they were saying that I owed them, when they knew full well that I had paid my entire loan in full.

They are crooked, lying, scamming, thieves who like to steal things people have worked hard to pay for.

Why did you leave the issue unresolved for four years? You had more than enough time to gather your proof of payment and loan agreement together and present them or mail copies to the credit union to prove your case.
