It sounds like to me that several people in this narrative who were LOYAL to their company and honestly tried to do a good job were set up by some district Managers who were possibly thieves themselves. OR THEIR bosses told them that they needed to cut some4 jobs and so that is what they did>!' Their loss prevention sounds like a joke. I remember being the only Native American in an all Hispanic store and watching the customers shoplift everything but the one store security person was watching me and doing it so badly that she knocked over a display. All the shoplifters leave are empty packages. It didn't used to be that way. There was a young Hispanic guy and he whipped that store into shape and there was actually merchandise in those wrappers at one time. Either somebody there backstabbed him or he got tired and went elsewhere.. WHEN YOU HAVE MORE EMPTY PACKAGES THAN MERCHANDISE, THE STORE HAS A PROBLEM! I have seen the crooks in upper management steal and steal and goof off and many of them got there because a family member or a friend got them the job -maybe to cover for their stealing.... WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR NATIONAL ECONOMY MIGHT BE THE DAY OF RECKONING FOR THE RETAIL BUSINESSES WHO ABUSE CONSCIENTIOUS EMPLOYEES! WHO IS MINDING THE STORE IF THE EXECUTIVES ARE GOOFING OFF AND MAY BE INVOLVED IN THE STEALING????? WHAT KIND OF COUNTRY HAVE WE BECOME WHEN YOU CAN NO LONGER TRUST AND RELY ON YOUR EMPLOYER TO DO THE RIGHT THING BY YOU. NO MATTER WHAT THE BUSINESS, I KEEP READING AND HEARING THE SAME THING AND I HOPE THAT THOSE ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS EMPLOYEE ABUSE PAY!

Thank God, you and your Assistant and Store Manager are out of there! I wish you well. I got a better job, much closer to home. I no longer work six or seven days a week. I am no longer in fear for my life. I have a life now. I hope and pray all 3 of you have found a job.

I worked for the company for close to a year. In that time we were constantly pilfered from (ever see a man shove a shelf-full of medicine down his pants and run out the door like there's a fire?) constantly, DM was beyond a jerk to Management (and they wondered why I didn't want to be an Assistant Mgr?) and all kinds of just nasty things occurred (had someone defecate on the floor in an aisle when there were only 2 employees there, both at register taking care of lines)... The topper was when my Manager, Assistant Manager and myself were all physically attacked and the company did nothing...Oh, yea, they provided security guards for a set few hours a day after we fought tooth and nail for it. (And I mean set...like very predictable) Meanwhile, almost nothing was done to apprehend the guy who did it. Another store actually called us to tell us he had just *left* their store a week or so after the incident. They fired my Manager, using the high shrinkage numbers (which were not new at this store) as an excuse and the Assistant Manager and I quit because of fear and stress... Do yourself a favor, if you are looking for a job avoid Family Dollar.

You all must work in very different districts than what I do. I have seen many people come and go in my store and most of them have always been paid any vacation time they may have. The only time it has not been paid is if the employee was terminated due to theft, which I have seen quite a few times. In fact, our one asst. manager turned in her 2 week notice, worked it, and then the company automatically paid her the hours of vacation she had coming. There was no fighting with corporate to get it or anything. They just sent her the check when they sent ours on the next pay period after she quit. Nobody even put it in the system for her. Payroll just paid it.

Just for everyone's info, the comment that was made about ppl complaining about being babies refers to when I hear managers complaining about hours they work and other things that are not FDs fault. I also have never stated that FD is perfect. NO company is perfect. But I have said that some ppl on here are babies because they complain about things that they have done themselves. I have not and will not as you have stated so smartalecky goldust, say that to these ppl. Some ppl on here have legitimate complaints against the company and others don't. Like the person that took a deposit home and lost it. How is that FD's fault? They should have been terminated. Those are the ppl to whom I am talking about.

I have never been employed by Family Dollar stores, however I did recently move from the Allentown area. For you to last in that store as long as you did is amazing. I (and many many people that I know) refuse to have anything to do with most of Allentown just because of the high levels of crime. so happy you removed yourself from this element, and hopefully this new job treats you much better.

With all this stated, I lost my medical, dental, vision, long/short term insurance, 8 days of vacation, and I have been "Blackballed" in retail for "Failure To Protect Company Assets". That's nice. I worked for McCrory Stores for almost 30 years and Family Dollar for 6 years. I have a job now, but I want to thank Family Dollar for everything!!!!! Got the message?

Man, I am so glad to see that people on here are realizing that family dollar(like some other rebutal employee) that it is the streets of gold, and to mention that person said anyone that was on the case with family dollar were babies, please kentucky tell these people what you tell me... When the DM's do a walk thru or breakdown with inventory, what you need to do even if you are still employed, DO A INCIDENT REPORT ON EVERY THEFT, EVERY HOLD UP EVERYTHING, what that does it goes to loss prevention, and home office, you probaly were a low shrink store, you are probaly leverl 5 store(which means bad area with bad shrink)It worked with me, even if a pack of chewing gum is stolen or a empty package, go and do a incident report, print it up and put it in the file. When they see that you are getting in a bad area, you will see the ball rolling, like the other employee suggested to, excellent thinking on her part!I have been there and done it. Now on inventory, when automatics and spring stuff comes in, it will throw your inventory up in a roller coaster, (same with dollar general) closer it got to your inventory, it will increase.Like she said, log everything in, if you are leaving money in safe to see if anyone is taking it, Dont tell anyone at family dollar you are doing this, LP can get you for that. But, save all e-mails, you keep a copy of them, do like the other employee said, need any more info let us know

This is to all Managers of the Family Dollar. If your DM does not follow through with what he says or promises, you need to contact Employee Relation. Contact Hr and ask who this is in your area. Always keep e-mails that are sent and received. If you can have some one present with you when speaking with your DM. Do not wait give your DM a month then move up the chain of command. Family Dollar has a Anti-retaliation policy. Just make sure you are going by the book as much as possible. The DMs' are never held accountable, because we as managers put our trust in them to handle our issues and when they don't follow through and things go wrong we as Managers are held accountable. Its their word aginst ours. KEEP documentation and a journal. Tim I to was robbed on two occasions. I am off on a work related injury. When I went to my traing store it to was in unacceptable conditions. The store stories, were that previous managment had let people walk out with alot of merchandise. Also speaking with the local police this had happen about 2 years earlier as well. The DM prior to my arrival at that store had done walk through with estimated lost at 25,000.( On a couple of occasions.) That DM moved to a new district and evantually I was offered a raise to stay at that store which was about 30 moiles from home. The store I was hired to manage was a 10 minute drive from home. The inventory loss was through the roof due to previous managment. I only had the store for about 4 months before the first inventory. I was also promised cameras in my store or panic alarm I never received them. Its a lossing battle. People need to take it to the next level if they are not being heard. If you are still employeed I would start now and if not I would still get corporate involved.
