Farmers Insurance Car Insurance Ripoff When They Have to Pay Carol Stream Illinois
A driver that was insured by Farmers Insurance Co. hit my truck while parked in front of my house. I got a police report and called Farmers about 3 days after the accident. I never heard back from them for 2 weeks so I called. They said the other driver had not made a statement, so they could not process my claim. I asked them if they had the police report (which described the accident in detail) and they said they had the report but they still couldn't process my claim until the other driver made a statement.
After 3 weeks, they finally got a statement from the other driver. I had 3 estimates of the damage to my truck which averaged about $4700.00. They said they wanted me to go to one of their "approved vendors" for an estimate, which I did. The "approved vendor's" estimate was less than half of the other estimates - $2300.00 to be exact.
When I called the adjuster and asked him about the descrepancy, he said that was the amount I would receive to fix my truck. The body shop had listed junk yard parts for replacement parts (I heard him call a wrecking yard while I was there to get the estimate). When I asked the adjuster about the junk yard parts, he said that was normal for repairs of this type.
If anyone ever has an accident with you and they are covered by Farmers, you should immediately contact Farmers and have them rent you a replacement vehicle as that will speed things up considerably when they are paying for a rental. They will try every trick in the book to delay payment and then pay a lot less than any other estimate. I have filed a complaint with the Texas Insurance Commission over the matter, but nothing has been done yet, and my truck still is not fixed after a full month.
