I purchased a used 1997 Buick Riviera on 12/30/98 with 16,885 miles on it. KNowing the high cost of repairs on todays vehicles, I felt it prudent to purchase an extended warranty for said vehicle. I specifically asked the selling GM dealer for a General Motors Extended warranty. What they gave me was this worthless piece of paper from a company called "Fidelity Warranty" (Bait and switch).

Fortunately, the car has been a relatively reliable vehicle, and I did not need to use the extended warranty. Until yesterday when the transmission went bad. I had the vehicle towed to a reputable transmission shop I had dealings with in the past, and they agreed to honor my extended warranty.

The warranty was supposed to be good for 72 months or 100,000 miles. Upon calling Fidelity Warranty, the sales manager at the transmission shop was told the vehicle was no longer covered by the warranty. The purchase date of the warranty was on 12/30/98, and the date of breakdown was 2/9/04 with 42,000 miles on the vehicle. most people would assume that the vehicle was covered by the warranty company from the time of purchase and for 6 years and 100,000 miles. HOWEVER, the way this warranty from fidelity is written, since the vehicle had more then 6000 miles on it when I purchased it, the warranty began at the production date of the car in 1997!!!! Now who would knowingly spend $2,000.00 for a warranty that was ALREADY 2 years expired when they bought it?!?!?!?!

I am outraged not only by the dealer for not giving me what I asked for, but for basically stealing $2,000.00 from me and giving me this piece of paper from Fidelity Warranty that is less useful then toilet paper! I was going to sue the dealer I bought the car from, however they are out of business (I wonder why).

BUYER BEWARE - of Fidelity Warranty. You amost need your lawyer to revue this warranty prior to purchasing it as it is deceptively written, and has many clauses in it to help Fidelity get out of paying for warranted repairs.
