In May of 2004 I purchased a 2003 Ford Mustang. At the time of purchase I sprung for the Gold coverage extended warranty ($1,667.00) from Fidelity Warranty. Recently (February 20 2006) I took it in to have the wobbling steering wheel and fibrating clutch looked at. The service dept at the Ford Dealership told me to leave my Fidelity Warranty account with him so he could call the company to see if my car was under the warranty. Several hours later the service dept. called and told me I had a warped flywheel. He said he called Fidelity and they told him I was not covered for that repair. He then proceeded to tell me the repair would cost out of my pocket-$1,100.00!!! I told him I didn't have that kind of money and wasn't an extended warranty for these types of situations???

I then called Fidelity myself and spoke to a representative (Harry) who told me the same thing. I told him I had the warranty in my hand and under the Gold coverage the flywheel is a covered repair. He pointed out to me that since the flywheel is a component near the clutch it is not covered. I then said that no where in the warranty does it said flywheel not covered if associated with a clutch. He then began to give me an explaination that made no sense. Reeling with this upcoming debt I told him that this entitled Fidelity Warranty"carefree Car Protection" was not carefree for the consumer but for the company who gets out of paying for a covered part.

Warpage is not a part failure

Your contract may list it covers a flexplate/flywheel if the part fails, but if you warp it that is not a failure. Warpage happens by high amounts of heat that cause metal to bend, in your case things that cause a flywheel to warp. Riding your clutch pedal or going up hill from a stop giving it gas and slowly letting off the clutch pedal are some of the things, regardless in your case the shop stated to you the only problem was the flywheel is warped and the only way to warp a flywheel is not properly operating your vehicle.
