..that this person at the dealership is stepping up to the plate.  Your reply stills sounds like you are not 100% satisfied..but that you are appreciative that you are getting some help with the vehicle.

The fact that they are doing anything for you is a good sign..as most dealers won't do anything once the car is off the lot..especially a used land rover or similar trouble prone/difficult/expensive to repair vehicle.

It is a sign that this dealership cares, and wants to stay in business for the long haul..not just the quick buck at the expense of screwing over others.

There was a day when things like "pride", "integrity","customer service" meant more then greed, profit and numbers alone. Yes, all businesses need to profit to survive..but it is how they go about it that separates a legitimate business..from nothing more then a scam, criminal or ponzi.

The dealer sold you a problem vehicle..

But..you chose to buy a Land Rover. The reason you don't see too many on the road..is they have one of the worst reliability ratings..and one of the highest cost of maintenance compared to a more conventional vehicle.

So expect to be fixing it a lot...getting towed a lot..and it being very expensive to repair and maintain.

I agree it is a nice looking SUV and the price was right (well not including all the towing and repairs)....but it's kind of like a Jaguar...beautiful sexy car...but loses 70- 90% of it's value once you drive it off the lot due to maintenance issues and costs. After a few years..an 80,000+ dollar Jag is lucky to sell for $10,000 in any condition. Because no one can afford to keep fixing them all the time..or afford to be without their car because it is always in the shop due to one thing or another.

You should use carfax..not only to check the vehicle you are buying..but to read the overall reviews and ratings from previous owners of the same vehicle...you might have decided to buy something else if you knew about the problems these are known to have.

Of course the dealer is going to tell you it's the best car ever....they want to sell it..that is what they do..if they advertised that it is very expensive to repair and it is known to break down a lot..they may never have sold it.

Just a few seconds of me doing a google search for 2002 Freelander cost of maintenance I found a review from someone who bought one new..

Here it is...

"Suck money from wallet. In its first year with me the fuel pump failed ($750) Window regulator ($330) Light Switch ($220) also Rear window, Radio, Door locks (awaiting repair. Also AC is fairly weak and loud, and the front brakes wear out quickly. Required maintenance is going to cost $300 to $2000 in any given ye

Did you have the car checked out by a mechanic before you bought it? As far as I know, used car sales are always "as is" unless there's an expressed warranty. Can you provide more details?
