First Energy Solutions Introductory electric rate scam Akron, Ohio
I received an offer from First Energy Solutions in the summer of 2012 offering half price electric rates for 2 months followed by a year of electric rates at a specified price. My electric provider is West Penn Power (which like First Energy Solutions is a subsidiary of First Energy Corp). West Penn Power usually reads the meter every other month and estimates every other month. During the time of the introductory low rate, West Penn Power estimated the usage instead of getting actual readings. Also, the estimate they used (after looking at old bills) was approximately half the kilowatt hour estimate they had previously used given the same monthly temperatures. When the normal rate kicked back in and they actually read the meter, I got the huge bill for all the electric usage they had previously underestimated. I have no doubt it was intentional, systemic and management directed.
