I am a current card holder with First Premier Bank and have been so for over 6 months now. I have bad credit. When I was younger, I was very irresponsible with the credit cards I received and I'm still digging my way out of that hole. I decided to not go bankrupt. I feel that, because this debt is pretty much my fault and my responsibility, I'm to pay it off. I had to apply to FPB to get the card. I paid the $178 (I only had a $250 credit line) with a 9.9% APR and I've been happy since. It may only be ONE credit card, ONE line of credit and not a large amount...but it's what you do with it that sincerely counts. I'm slowly rebuilding my credit and my life. I feel that this card is an excellent opportunity for those who have bad, horrible, terrible credit (I was $8500 in debt w/credit alone). This gives people a chance to turn their life around and show that they can be responsible. It's for those who have already learned once that if you can't pay it, don't have it.

Okay John, if you're going to write a rebuttal then let's tell the truth. First of all, First Premier doesn't even have cards with a 1.9%. There in the sub-prime market. Secondly, you didn't receive a statement with 278 in charges it should only be 178. And lastly, you say you didn't use it. Didn't you read in the application that it says you can cancel within 30 days and without using it, you will not be liable for anything. So why did you send in a payment. Looks like the joke is on you. And don't forget folks, these people are improving your credit not your life style. If you people want any more then that, no wonder why you go bankrupt.

They count on people who don't read "all that stuff" that comes with the offer

John and everyone else - you have to read the back of the offer letters or accompanying pamphlets you get with a credit "invitation". First Premier does clearly state all the fees they charge. That's why I've avoided them for the past 5 years that they have been mailing me. They count on people who don't read "all that stuff" that comes with the offer - Let's get smart and look out for ourselves - no one else will.

I was looking for a lower Interest rate

I was looking for a lower interst rate. I thought my credit was getting pretty good. So I saw this offer in the mail From First Premir Bank for 1.9 % So Sent for the card. A month later I recieved a bill for 278.00 for a 300 dollar card limit. I called them up and inquired whats this about, I haven't even used the card. They said thats set up fee and membership fee Etc etc. I told them to cancel the card. They said they would but there would be a a charge for that plus the 278.00 outstanding balance. But they would lower the charge if I would agree to keep the card for a year. to 168.00 I paided the 168. and they have been sending me a bill for 6 dollars every month , and they may charge me for a credit review!! geez . I want to cancel but my year isn't up yet. I sense destroyed the card. In a sense I threw away 200 hundred dollars on a crooked bank.for nothing. They got me. Even Electronic bill paying cost 5 dollars to sign up and 7 dollars a transaction when you do. I'm waiting for the next rip off. they will post my check late, even though I sent it out the day I got it. and I get a late fee. Please don't let them do this to you. First Premir Bank is a Rip off.

Other Options ..Open your eyes, watch your back and look for the deals.

Capital One, Providian and Orchard Bank all have credit cards with little or no fees, reasonable rates and usually no security deposit (I don't have a security deposit on any of my accounts). I went bankrupt about 2.5 years ago due to divorce and I have received a TON of offers from First Premier, but I've always chucked them in the trash AFTER reading the terms. Open your eyes, watch your back and look for the deals. There are banks that want to help rebuild without wanting your first born. And, yes, I do have cards with the above-mentioned lenders. I would have to say Orchard Bank has been the most rewarding. Good luck!! Read those terms and conditions. It's your responsibility.
