What a ripoff. I got this letter & check in the mail today and I was so excited that it said I won $85,000.00 and had a check enclosed for $2980.00. I was confused about the check being so small and showed it to my daughter and she read the letter and said, "Mom its a scam" so I got on the computer and started my search and found this site and the same letter & check and amounts from another lady who fell for it and so did her bank. Thank God I didn't deposit that check!!!!

Would have been nice, since I am on Social Security, but would have really caused me some problems money wise. The check had DSI REALTY DISTRIBUTION-P.O. Box357-6700 E. Pacific Coast Hwy., STE 150-Long Beach, Ca. 90801 Phone 1-800-249-9240. It shows the bank at the top also: Union Bank Of California, N.A.-Harbor Gateway Corporate Deposits-970 W. 190 St. Suite 995-Torrance, Ca. 90502 and the check number is 008884 and has 2 signatures. I called the number on the letter so I could talk to Cindy Williams to let her know that I was real upset with her company and got a recording that said, "Sorry-All our agents are currently busy at the moment. Please leave your name & number and someone will get back with you. Then it said, Sorry there is no more room to record new message. The envelope has a different address of FORD CORPORATE INC-66800 Tenth Line W-Mississauga, On. L5M 7T2 and has a Canada stamp. My letter was as follows: AWARD NOTIFICATION FINAL NOTICE Congratulations! We are proud to inform you that you are a Winner! In the international promotions/prize sweepstakes lottery program, which was held on September 14, 2008. Your name was attached to ticket 0000441183 with the serial number BY6000331 and drew the lucky numbers and consequently won the lottery prize in the first category of $85,000.00-DOLLARS. We tried to contact you by phone but unfortunately we were unable to reach you. The purpose of this letter is to explain how you can claim your cash prize. For you to be able to claim your prize there are fees of a calculated amount of $2980.00. Enclose is a check to you in the above amount. Please before cashing your check, you have to call to confirm that you have received the letter with the enclosed check. An amount representing 5% will be deducted from your cash prize to repay the fees.REF:AH-NV-77833

To elaborate more, this draw was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Moreover if we do not hear from you in three weeks from the date this letter was sent, your file will be closed and you will no longer be able to claim your winnings. Once again, Congratulations to you! For more information please contact your representative Ms Cindy Williams, at the following number 1-450-369-0315

Fee?

Any legitimate lottery is not going to charge you a fee to get your money. That should be the first clue, especially when they send a check to you. If there was a fee why wouldn't they just deduct it from the check in the first place? Good job on not falling for it. What the scammers are hoping is that you will deposit the check, wire them the money, and then the check bounces. Of course the company will always want their money BEFORE the check clears.
