The email asked that I go online and apply for work as a secret shopper. The website looked legit and I filled out all areas except Bank information which should not be asked on a job site. I completed the contract and emailed it to the address provided which was a hotmail account which struck me as odd. Today, 10-18-2010, I received an envelope from Forward Business, LLC and inside the envelope were two checks. One for 9.84 and another for 2860.00. Both checks were from VMC Contracting, INC and were drafted on Bank of America checks.

This deemed odd as I had not worked for or heard of VMC and the checks looked a bit strange. I contacted VMC but no one answered. I tried to look up Forward Business but no number was listed. Only pages of scams.

I then contacted BofA to see if the checks were real, just as an investigation stand point (I had no intention on cashing them as I feared they would possibly bounce and my bank information would be sent to VMC or Forward Business). After speaking with BofA as suspected, the confirmed neither the check or the checking account number for VMC were valid.

VMC is located (allegedly) in VA and Forward Business is located (allegedly) in AZ.

These companies may be out to scam the unemployed or those looking for work as the unsolicited emails came with Careerbuilder.com as a source of where they obtained my information.

Please be careful when dealing with either company. I filed a police report  and ask that if you are contacted by either of these companies and feel you may be at risk, file a report with www.IC3.gov and never give out your personal information via email or internet.

I'm an educated individual and feel saddened that I fell for this scam. I did not give my SSN or DOB but feel awful that I got in this far.

Hello There

I had the same situation the only difference in "their application" never asked for my checking accounts.

They were so profesional I actually got a McDonald's web link to see my tasks!

The 3rd party checks came from Virginia too. different company.
