Fox Lake Ford/Thomas Auto Group (Joey Flano) contacted us, offering us an auto loan. We explained to them on the phone that we were looking for private financing and had already found a vehicle that we love at a different dealership. Mr. Flano stated that they could get "ANY VEHICLE WE WANTED". So, we made the trip from Wisconsin to Illinois.

Upon our arrival, we explained why we were there. We already found a vehicle (gave them the dealership's name) and that we were interested in financing and trading in our old vehicle.

The salesman spent hours and hours, trying to persuade us to buy a vehicle off of their lot. We explained many times over that we were interested in ONE vehicle, not located on their lot. We also explained how Mr. Flano stated that they could get "any vehicle we wanted".

Eventually, the owner, Craig, stepped in. My husband explained the situation to him. After speaking with him for 30 minutes, Craig agreed to buy the vehicle we wanted from the other dealership.

The next day, we were contacted by the financial dept. and we were told that we were approved, but that a downpayment of $1800 was required.

After a week, my husband and I took out a loan for this $1800 and immediately called Fox Lake Ford. The financial dept. said they would start the paperwork and get back to us.

A few days later, the finance dept. called to say that the loan was officially approved through the bank, but that it "wasn't their policy to buy vehicles from other dealerships". We reminded them that Craig, the "owner", said he would go and get this vehicle for us. That didn't matter. It seems as if Craig, the "owner",changed his mind about what the dealership's policies are. It would've been nice to know that BEFORE we took out a LOAN for their "required downpayment".

Supposedly, Fox Lake Ford's policies change on a daily basis. When they want your business, they promise anything and everything. Yet, they don't follow through on their end of the deal.

We have tried to contact the corporate offices of Fox Lake Ford/Thomas Auto group, but they referred us back to Craig, who subsequently reminds us of his newly invented policy.

We have since filed a complaint with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and really aren't expecting a resolution. The only resolution we want is for Fox Lake Ford to uphold their end of the deal.

For those interested in dealing with this dealership, BEWARE.

Yes, we were looking for private financing. We found the car, just needed a loan. We applied through eloans, who gave our contact info to Fox Lake Ford. Yes, we took out a LOAN for our downpayment. So? Don't know how many miles away Fox Lake Ford is, but it's not something we normally would've done(wasting gas, wasting time) if they would've been honest with us from the beginning. Other dealership doesn't want our trade in. It's a small town dealership and they have no market for our trade in. Hence the reason we were looking for private financing. I find it interesting that someone from Texas is commenting about my little report. Hmm....

I find it interesting that you state you were looking for "private financing" yet you had to get a loan for JUST the DOWN PAYMENT? That's kind of like borrowing the money to make a down payment on a house, to get a mortgage and we all know where that went. Also what is it? 20, 25 miles from Fox Lake to Elkhorn? A trip from WI to IL sure sounds alot longer. Why didn't you just buy the vehicle from the other dealer? Just remember. If a car guy's lips are moving, he's lying.

These two companies seem to be leading the Ripoff Reports at this site!!! Please read some of the Toyota Ripoff Reports too!! If you know anyone with a Toyota tell them that- THEIR LIFE COULD BE IN DANGER because there are Reports from Toyota owners whose AIRBAGS are NOT DEPLOYING when they are in accidents!!!!! 'Google' this for proof- ENGINE SLUDGE, and go to the consumeraffairs website about Toyota engine complaints, and then click on 'Airbags' when you are there!! TWO INNOCENT LIVES were recently LOST when a Toyota Tacoma was in an accident!!! One died IMMEDIATELY, the other died shortly after the crash!!!!!!!!! Be safe!! BOYCOTT Ford & Toyota!! NEVER BUY A TOYOTA! Thank you.
