I am glad I escaped .....
I received a call tonight from a "Mike" at Freedom Resouce. He read the script like a barely literate person and attempted to get me to sign up for this card. He quoted me a low fee and then read off all the crazy benefits. It was only because I asked if there was a catch or any hidden fees that he mentioned the fee of 221.00. I said no thanks and he hung up without further protest.
The way I see it, most credit cards are ripoffs anyway. Stick with the legitimate ones; always ask if there are any fees they are not mentioning. One never knows if the rep will be honest, but you can at least start there. Also, legitimate credit cards might charge an annual fee or something, but it will not be as high as 221.00! I have crappy credit and was almost tempted; i happened to be on this site and searched while I got the call...I won't say this site saved me...I don't have 221 dollars to throw away -- that is what saved me.
I have shitty credit and was recently able to get a card with household bank; the interest is high, but they give you quotes on all of their fees BEFORE you sign up. They have a website (www.hbcard.com) and have not screwed me yet. My girlfriend has a card with them and they have actually increased her credit line and have not screwed her yet, either (beyond what all credit card co's are allowed to do legally, that is).
This happened, coincidentally, on the same day I got an offer with consumer first (you can read about them here.) Just be very cautious and you should be ok.
