Gav's Auto Care Overcharges their customers for simple things Walnut Creek California
I've taken my car to Gav's Auto Repair for oil changes and simple maintenance for several years, but recently they raised the price of all of their services quite a bit so beware. In addition, they got rid of the experienced mechanics that they had for many years and replaced them with a couple of kids who don't seem to have any experience and take forever to get anything done. They have also done away with the low price wash that comes with the oil change which was a really nice part of their service. Now they will only run your car through their pretty much worthless automatic wash as part of the oil service, but no vacuum or interior cleaning. They are trying to upsell everyone a $40 fancy car wash and wax, tire treatment and undercarriage wash (which makes no sense in California since we don't have ice and salt on the roads) in place of the perfectly good economy wash and vacuum job that they used to give for like $12 extra with the oil change. In addition, they try to rip you off for basic things like the coolant flush. The girl at the front desperately tried to sell me a coolant flush and said she would give it to me for the "discount" price of $49. I thought that was pretty good so I agreed. Then when she presented me with the proposed charges, there was an additional "parts" charge of $60 with the coolant change!!! So really it was a $110 coolant flush. I asked what the "parts" were and she said this was for the coolant. I didn't fall for this one. A gallon of 50/50 (premixed) coolant (my truck takes a little over a gallon of coolant total) costs anywhere between $8 and $12. Please do not fall for this scam. It seems like these guys are preying on the elderly residents of Rossmoor and hoping no one will know any better. Their gas prices are the highest in town as well. It's really too bad, used to be a pretty decent place. I won't be back. Be changing my own oil and coolant from this point forward, and I guess washing my own car too. It's not rocket science. I would not trust their new rookie mechanics with anything other than the most basic things, they do not seem to know what they are doing and work at a snail's pace.

All businesses have to make money to pay their taxes and pay for their employees and paid for unexpected situations during the process of running a business. Not to forget it's very expensive for healthcare insurance for anybody's employees. I'm not here to attack you I just feel that you expect a lot out of plastic lawn chair budget. You say that you're going to start servicing your own car I doubt that you've been properly trained to do all necessary repairs to your car. If you're not trained to do proper repairs to your vehicle you could do more damage than you can expect and then it cost you a lot more money to have somebody else do it right.
I'm sure that if you went back to this place of service for your vehicle and explain to them your concerns I'm sure that they would work with you and show you the actual cost of everything that it takes to do business. I'm also sure that they're willing to work with you and make sure that your car is in roadworthy condition in a cost-effective manner . Don't be so quick to judge a company because you didn't get the price you wanted. There's a lot more That goes on behind the scenes to run a business and make sure that their employees are properly trained to repair your vehicle as well as everybody else's. Please don't be so quick to judge them.
