Last Year my husband and I were vacationing in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.  We were invited to The Reef Time Share resort to see thier resort and go through the Time Share presentation.  Everyone was very nice and the place was also nice.  They offered to buy us out of our time share if we would invest in their time Share.  We said no many times, but they kept giving us better offeres.  They said they have a buyer for our Time Share right now and all we would have to do is sent them the information on our current Time share which was bought and paid for and that they would directly deposit the money into our account.  We agrreed to a trial 5 year package and justified it by believing they were going to buy our time share.  They gave us a signed Escrow Liquidation Contract that stated our Time Share would be sold by GDS before 6 months and the money would be deposited into our account. They offered us a lot of money for our Time Share and stated the Mexican citizens can used them to trave to the US without green cards and so they are in high demand if we own an actual time share  property (deeded).  When we returned to the US I contacted GDS and they re-assured me that they were taking care of things.  I forwarded our information on our property to them.  Then i began to get the run arround.  The way this new Time share works is that if youi dont want to use your two weeks you can sell them for 2000.00 back to GDS.  We were told that GDS would pay us directly for those weeks.  We thought at the time that in reality this Time share would pay for it's self since we just invested about 5,000. Mind you, wse never would have invested any money if they had not lied to us inthe first place about buying our time share of if they had not lied to us about GDS buying our weeks.  Since that time i hav contacted GDS partners over 20 times via phone and email.  They keep giving me the run around. They have never paid us a dime, and we now are the proud owner of two time shares.  We barley had the time to take our vacations with our first time share, much less two time shares.  The Reef stated that they have never had any complaints about GDS so I can only assume that they too are in on this scam.  GDS is a US compnay that is involved in the Travel industry.  These sales people were very good liars and made us feel like they were helping us out.  Please beware.  I checked into hiring a lawye to fight them and it would cost me more than I have invested, so I have decided to cut my losses.  Just dont want others our there to fall for the same thing I did.

Timeshares are never a good purchase and timeshare owners need to be cautious about this. There are lots of timeshare scams. I recommend you to read a good article with good information about timeshare issues: http://www.timesharescam.com/blog/121-how-to-get-rid-of-a-timeshare/

Timeshare Scams in Mexico

Timeshare scams in Mexico are a big deal. The salespeople in Mexico use high-pressured sales tactics to to ensure that their sales occur on a one-day only basis so that the client does not have time to properly research the company. They are often successful because the clients are on vacation, have let their normal guard down, and do not have time to make an informed decision. One would think that the fraudulent sales practices would inhibit the resort’s ability to sell because it would tarnish their reputation, however, most timeshare consumers do not plan in advance to buy a timeshare. By the time that most clients find out that they have been scammed, they are outside of their 5 day cancellation period, and are not sure how to approach cancelling a timeshare in a foreign country.
