Heidi, Never use the roadside assistance offered as part of an insurance policy as it is just that, INSURANCE, and each time you use it, it DOES count as a claim. It is meant for EMERGENCY situations only, like when you are in an accident, etc. These plans are not meant to enable someone to use an old worn out car at the insurance company's expense. That is what you were doing. Even a motor club will cancel you for excessive use. Three uses in a year usually gets you cancelled. You should always buy a motor club membership with one of the larger companies like Allstate Motor Club. I have had very good luck with them over several years. I had my worst luck with AAA. Absolutely TERRIBLE service and minimal allowable coverage. As far as the GIECO employee's attitude, that accurately represents the way GIECO does business. FYI..I have NEVER been able to save money with GIECO as advertised and I have a spotless driving record for over 20 years and hold a Class A CDL and am 44 years old! I drive approximately 175,000 miles per year accident and ticket free! I have gotten quotes several times over the past 10 years or so and in some cases the quote was DOUBLE what I was currently paying for LESS coverage and HIGHER deductibles. GIECO is a scam and a joke, and should be avoided. That's why they need a gimmick like a talking lizard. It is a distraction from the high premiums. After all, who do you think pays for all of those prime time advertisements? The answer is simple. The customers do, with higher premiums.

You have to be missing some facts here. First of all, they do not cancel a policy for just tows. They can remove ERS for overabuse but they do not cancel based on ERS usage. Driving record ok??? Payments on time? Honest with the company about drivers living in the home or with usage of vehicle??? A company does not stay tops in the insurance business for 65 years because they cancel at will, which i am quite certain they did not do to you.

Everything that happened to me has been reported EXACTLY as it happened to me. Since this is my situation I believe I do know how it happened. You can spin it however you want to with GEICO to attempt to make them look good but people that this type of situation has happened to know what GEICO is like. They are out there and they know this is correct.

1. GEICO must send notification of cancellation by mail by law and these letters are automatically sent out. Because your policy was cancelled for adverse reason the letter may have even been certified. 2. Your towing story has nothing to due with the cancellation of your policy. GEICO can only strip your towing coverage for overuse, not cancel the whole policy. If the policy cancelled because of the amount of claims it was for actual claims (ie accidents and damage to the vehicle) NOT USE OF TOWING SERVICE. My only concern is that the poliy was not cancelled, but parts of your coverage, in which case you still had an insurance policy. 3. Finally, cancellations for adverse reasons can only occur within the first few months you are with a company OR at renewal, which meand instead of receiving a new contract every 6 months, you would have received a letter notifying you about the NONRENEWAL. 4. Lastly, GEICO usually offers to insure it's policyholders under a higher risk policy rather than lose a customer unless the policyholder is already in the highest risk group.

If you are in the military, get with USAA. They are a company that you can only belong to if you are in the military. Since they are owned by military members, they are the most friendly to those IN the military. I have had the insurance for almost 13 years and have NEVER, EVER had one single problem. They are the best when it comes to customer service! Get the info from your base.

At the same point, where in her post does it say she did NOT update each time. Granted, I may be reading too much into the post, but she seems to imply they had uninterrupted coverage for 2 years. She only talks about the one move. From that, I inferred there was only ONE move that was the problem. Could it have been more? Sure. But that doesn't seem to be what this post is about. In the end, my post is really more about the attitude of the Geico employee. Perhaps it didn't come across that way and for that, I apologize. But the fact is, the attitude was WAY out of line and if that is "customer service" for Geico, I'll keep my insurance money in the hands of someone I can meet with face to face each month and who knows my name.

The original poster contacted the insurance company before she moved ACROSS THE COUNTRY. Being a military family they likely moved many other times during a short period. How is it you can deduce that GEICO definitely had their correct address, based on the fact that she called before her one cross-country move? Where exactly does the original poster state that she called to update her address each and every time she ever moved?

Geico employee, Please re-read the post above. She said she contacted Geico BEFORE she moved so the whole "Update your address thing" is not true. She said she was cancelled for too many claims so your statement that "there is no way to know why you were cancelled" also untrue. It does sound unfriendly to me and quite frankly, just one more reason I won't use Geico. Oh - and the title of your response "Whatever", if that is your attitude as an employee, why should I give you my money. It is clear what kind of customer service I can expect. Heidi, I think you made the right choice. My only suggestion, get away from the "online" insurance companies if you can. A live insurance agent that you can get to know is always your best bet.

You stated that there was no letter. Did you call and update your address or did you wait till you got to Norfolk? The reason I ask this is if you called from Washington and said hey I am moving to Va the agent would have told you when your next payment would be due. We always send out notices that your policy is going to cancel for nonpayment. So where is your personal responsability in this? Was your payment made on time or did you take transitional leave while pcsing? There are so many variables there is no way to pin point from your post why it canceled. GEICO stands up for the military more than any other company.
