Owner (older gentleman) offered us a sarcastic, pressured filled deal on a diamond platinum eternity wedding ring followed by "make up your mind!"
We asked if he'd hold the diamond rings til' the next day so we could think about it (I said I didn't want to be pressured & my son was in the local Christmas parade). Later we called to ask (Ketti whom we'd spoken to previously) a few questions about sizing & he said he sold the ring "10 min after we left", ADMITTING he'd agreed to hold it, but a customer who saw us looking at the ring wanted it & he "had to let it go."
He threw in my face the ring had been held a while for us & I reminded him that Kelly held it for me but my Grandmother had just passed away. And....I'd just been in store the previous day, but the owners wife took the ring out of the bag in the safe with my name, on hold for me...& left the store wearing the ring on hold for me. (can you imagine??)
How unprofessional, he fully admitted he said he'd hold it, but sold it to a customer who was standing near me while I tried it on, horrible! He's NOT a trustworthy businessman & seems like a smile away from an angry outburst. Gemsmith doesn't care! Karma takes care of people like this, we'll spend our money elsewhere. Less)

How exactly is this shopkeep going to continue to hold something for you with no deposit? Even YOU cant be that dumb. Lets examine your situation shall we...
You are a "I need to think about it" which means you are a "maybe" purchase. Then a customer strolls in and says "I want that ring" and 100% sure sale. Now first you HAVE to remember that the world doesnt revolve around YOU princess. As such, you would have probably flaked on the "later" portion. Meaning that this person who is in business to make money so they can provide for THEIR family STILL needs to make money. They cannot just HOLD a item until you get off your a*s and decide to purchase it. THEY NEED TO PAY BILLS. NOT PANDER TO A WANNA BE PRINCESS WITH DELUSIONS OF THEIR OWN SELF IMPORTANCE!!
This is neither a ripoff or a scam. This poster expects the world to revolve around them and is just mad because someone else wouldnt bend over backwards for her. Its called BUSINESS!!!! NOT CHARITY!!
He told you that you needed to make up your mind. Maybe next time you will sieze the opportunity instead of dragging your feet.

You are upset, because you wnated a store to hold an item a little bit longer so you "could think about it'. Right after you left the store, someone else saw the ring, and bought it.
The store owner would not have been a very good businessman, to turn down a sale for something that a customer says "I Want to think about it some more".
Did you give the shop keeper a deposit to hold the ring from his inventory? I take it you didnt. But here is the real kicker, IN YOUR OWN WORDS might I remind you.

How long had he held the ring in his safe before you came back to buy the ring????
You Really have no right to ask a shop keeper to hold something out of inventory, so you "Can Think About it some more". Sorry You Snooze You Lose.
