purchased GE profile refrigerator from Home Depot, January of 2007. just after the warranty ran out the refrigerator started having problems keeping temperature, maybe it even quit, and a little plastic part in the door had broken, which kept the door from sealing properly. i called a local repairman, who works on GE's, to come out-we are rural. he fixed the problem with the temp flucuations-i'm unsure what he did exactly, i can't remember. he said he had to find the part# for the plastic part in the door, and would call me back when he had it and come out to repair it. well, he never called-never came back. my husband went online and found out that you could not just buy the little plastic hinge that broke-you had to replace the whole door, costing over 200 dollars! i just stared tying a rope around the door handles to try and keep it closed. obviously that didn't always do the trick, so i'll bet the frige worked harder than it should have.

last night we had a power outage and although the power came back on about 5 or 6 hours later and so too, the lights in my frige, but it was silent-NOT WORKING! i transferred the food from it and the bottom draw freezer to my 20 year old kenmore STILL working in the shed out front and found my paperwork for it. called GE, to vent-as i really didn't know if i could or should repair it! they have offered me two ways to resolve- one- i can call a repairman and get reimbursed for the parts he must order, or two- i can purchase another profile, which retails for 2300 dollars now, she said, for a discount-out the door, old one hauled away, new one installed for 1,841.82. i was surprised, since i did not think they would do anything for me this far out of warranty. but i am unsure if this will do me any good if i just get the problems everyone seems to be having with this model and others. also, i don't really have the cash for this at this moment anyway. i've left a message asking if i could do it with my home depot credit card, but that was today, so i should hear back tommorow, i suppose. i'm torn. unsure if i wouldn't be better off buying another brand altogether. i will have to check online and see if other companies sell better refrigerators.
