George And Sons Garage mistreated and ripped off St. Petersburg Florida
Called AAA for a tow for my vehicle, they send a tow company called George and Sons, a popular towing company. Not having a reliable mechanic, and considering AAA utilizes this company for towing, my husband asks where we should tow it to get it fixed, someplace reasonable. The tow truck guy suggests his garage, George and Sons. Knowing this company had a good reputation towing- wise, my husband agreed.
The problem was the alternater was shot and needed replacement. My husband was given 2 ball park figures as to how much it might cost. He told them to call me at home with an estimate. Six hours later, I receive a call from George and Sons saying the vehicle is fixed, and the total was $443.14. For an alternator.
I was shocked and told him I'd call back. The bottom line is that no one gave them permission to do the work, and they expected to get paid. I called all over to find out the cost of the part, the most expensive estimate being $120 with core exchange. Then I called the actual dealership to find out how much it would cost to fix the problem with a factory part. They quoted me $350 for the whole procedure.
So now I call and confront the mechanic, telling him I never got an estimate and would not have approved of such an inflated price, making sure to go down the list and give him all the price quotes I got, including the factory job. I asked if he used a factory part and he said no. I refused to pay, made him get my old alternator back and put it back in. He refused and would not release my vehicle until I payed for half the labor and some other charge.
My husband went to pay and get the vehicle, only to find the old alternator in pieces on the passenger seat!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They will use you first.
