A friend of mine told me about this report, he knows me and "Dean" very well and was laughing about the absurdity of this report Dean filed.
From the first word to the last it's a total lie, other than the fact he lost his truck.
1: Dean used to drive my truck, hauling flatbed freight and was paid weekly for his work done previous week.
2: Dean came to me and informed me he was going to buy his own truck and me to find him loads and collect his money.
I begged him not to buy a truck because the business of trucking was getting tough because of fuel cost and freight was beginning to tighten up because of the economy. He bought a truck from a "buy here-pay" here business. His payments to the best of my recollection we abiut $ 650 Per Week...
3: I was told, by Dean a family member was going to help him with his down payment and he would make so much money he could pay it back in no time. Once again I showed him the cost of keeping a truck on the road and he said he wold do well.... Here is the rest of the story.
I am going by 10 year old recollection, so my exact dates may be off a week or so. Within 2 to 3 weeks of having the truck, his "finance company" for truck started calling my office looking for Dean, explaining he was behind on payments. To the best of my recollection we started (with Deans approval) started making his weekly payments because he was on the road and we understood the time and structure to make weekly payments was difficult.
Once his fuel cost, insurance cost, truck payments cost strated coming out of his check, he realized he wasn't making any money, just like I explained to him these cost in black and white before he purshased truck.
Several times Dean did not gross enough per week to make complete payment and the "pay here" business was not able to contact Dean, and they were calling office looking for truck.
Eventually the truck lost it's clutch and had to be put in shop for repairs. The "pay here" business was looking for truck to be repossed and Dean ask me to pay for having a clutch put in it. No, but hell no I explained to him because I told him the truck was going to be repoed as soon as it came from garage. He even told the garage I was going to pay for repairs and I explained to them I was not paying repair bill.
After a week or so the truck was repaired, Dean came to me again asking for money. Once again I knew he was on a "sinking ship" and would lose truck even if I loaned him money, I knew I would never get my money back, and frankly I did not have the money to loan him, (I wasn't making money because trucking cost got so high).
Dean was paid for every load he every hauled for the company. I never told him I was waiting for money, because we had freight bills "factored " weekly and setteled up with everyine weekly. He told his family member that loaned him money for deposit we were behind, and they called, came to office and we showed them all paperwork and they figured out that they had been lied to by Dean.
As far as fuel taxes, another case of bullcrap. Individual states do not collect fuel taxes. The state the truck is tagged to collects fuel taxes and distributes it out according to milage and fuel purshaed in each state. All fuel taxes were paid to NC. Please find me a state that is after me for past due fuel taxes. This alone proves his words are full of crap.
I paid every cent in child support, and stoppen paying support in early 2000' s because 2 of my 3 children were raised by me. The last child graduated high school in 2002. I have never heard of Southeast Freight Company. If you know anything about DOT numbers, you will know "fake numbers" don't work. Trucks constantly go thru checkpoints and all that is checked out, constantly. I never had 9 drivers that lost their trucks, I got out of the business in early 2007 the trucks (5) I was finding loads for went on in life, I have no idea of their status now. Me or my company never wrote a "bad check" ( yes there were times in life I had some bouncers, they were made good as soon as I was aware of the situation. Very rarely did this happen, NEVER to a trucker.
To close, I contacted a lawyer about this report he filed, I was and am, very angry, however the laywer said "you cant get something from someone that has nothing"
