My son bought a VW bug, and it needed a new engine. After looking around a bit, we saw an impressive ad by GEX International.  We called and talked with Larry, who seemed to be very informative, and since we live close by, we decided to buy from him.

We ordered a 1835, but Larry mistakingly ordered an 1776. We spoke, and went ahead with the 1776. Larry made many promises of a quality built engine, and machine work. I picked up the "newly rebuilt" engine, or rather, a longblock, and delivered our old engine as a core. Many accessories were purchased as well.

Part of the deal with the warranty was that the engine must be built by a qualified mechanic. We told Larry that this would be done by the professional mechanics at the auto dealership where my son worked. They had told him they would build it for him. Larry agreed that this would be fine. However, they could only work on it in their spare time, and so it took quite awhile.  After a time, the owner/boss, said to get it done, and get it out of there. So, it was built, but then he was on his own with it.

He drove it home, but was not happy. The motor had no power, and just wasn't right. The mechanics that built it said they could not spend any more time on it.  No matter what was done, the motor wouldn't preform.

He spent alot of time on it, the only thing that he didn't do was to take the motor apart, after all, it was new.

One day he went swimming and drowned. He was 21. The car was parked in my backyard for awhile, Then my wife and I decided to get the money and put the car in a shop and have it fixed. After all, it had a new motor. It would be a shame to just let it sit there and rot. So, I had the car taken to a VW repair shop and that's when the truth was learned.

That engine was nice and pretty on the outside, and old and worn out on the inside. That's why it wouldn't run right. The heads were welded and cracked, the machine work was a joke. All the parts were shot. This engine only had 150 miles on it, but the shop said it actually had over 100k on it. They couldn't believe it. They told us to call Larry and work this out, and I asked them to. So, they talked with Larry. He was very rude, insulting, and said we were nuts. His company, GEX, couldn't possibly be responsible for it. Larry was no longer the nice guy he was before. Now he was just the opposite. He even denied the whole thing.  WHAT A JERK.

Now the car is on the back burner, and the shop where it's at is waiting for me to figure it out.

Larry is a crook, or someone working for him is. If Larry really thinks we got what we paid for, then someone working for him did it. And Larry doesn't know. Either way,  this is a crime, and very shamefull.  There should be a law.

I spoke with a lawyer, and because this was my sons car, in his name only, I'm screwed. If my name had been on any of the paperwork, I would have a case, but my name is not on any of the paperwork.

I have all my sons papers, the canceled check, everything. And a "quality GEX motor".

There should be a law.

I only wanted to finish what my son started, and drive this car in his memory.

Thanks Larry.
