Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

GMS has agreed (T635537) to provide packing and moving assistance for a fixed price of $1804. They held my goods hostage and wouldn't deliver until I paid them $2000 more which I paid to take posession of the goods. During the move they misplaced a few items (including Flat screen TV) worth $1200.

Owner doesn't pick up my calls or respond to emails enquiring about status of the misplaced items. On the day of delivery, the foreman told me they got loaded to a different truck which is on its way for delivery the following day. This was almost 2 months back. I still don't have posession of my beloved goods :(.  Deceptive stories have been fabricated telling me the truck carrying the goods got disabled on the highway and will be enroute shortly. Then the owner doesn't pick the phone saying his wife is ill with cancer. Two weeks later another women who identified as his wife picks up the phone and tells me his husband is hospitalized and in a critical condition so she doesn't know the status of the goods. After repeatedly calling, I finally got hold of the owner telling me he is just fine and his staff has miscommunicated to me.

This company is so rogue they not even bothered to respond to BBB, NY DOT or even FMCSA (federal motor carrier safety admin - DOT). They are not even respnoding to AMSA which they are a member of. If I knew the moving industry is so unregulated, I would never have hired movers for the job.

I came to know the owner of this company has criminal history (he just lost an appeal in a lawsuit filed by NY Attorney General where he was found guilty of possession of stolen truck). Owner also was served jail sentence a few years ago for possession of contraband. If only I did some research (Google), I would have stayed away from this criminal owner and his shady business.

ACME has nothing to do with GMS

#2Consumer Comment

Fri, October 29, 2010

As a consumer who was also ripped-off by Kirk Gillums and GMS Moving, I tried contacting ACME to see if I could find Kirk (to get my missing goods back).  It turns out that ACME never merged with Kirk and that Kirk used this company as a screen by providing his "new" work phone number as ACME's and saying he was now under their employment.

Well, the real story is that ACME themselves employed Kirk for a minor job and got robbed themselves of a significant amount, i.e. thousands of dollars!  Now they too, along with the DA, the NYPD, and 15+ customers are on Kirk's trail.  So, I sympathize with Naveen's experience - mine was virtually identical - but it is important to clear ACME's good name, as they were no more complicit with Kirk than his other victims.  In fact, ACME's manager had the honor to reimburse a customer overcharged by Kirk to the tune of thousands of dollars out of his own pocket, something GMS never did and never will do.

Lastly, I wish to vouch for Naveen's report as he, myself, and at least 2 other customers I know personally had the identical experience.  Unfortunately, ACME got burned as well, and I wouldn't want their kind owner (who is contacting the police himself) to be tarred with Kirk's corrupt actions.  So, as of October 29th, having spoken directly to ACME myself, I would like to go on the record for their full disassociation from Kirk Gillums and GMS.

GMS has now merged with ACME VAN LINES

#3Author of original report

Sat, September 18, 2010

The same rogue mover "Kirk Gillums" D.B.A is now operating under the license of sister company "ACME Van lines" after getting his GMS Federal DOT license revoked on 08/23/2010.

Although I personally have not used ACME Van Lines, the very fact that Kirk (a criminal convicted of robbery, stealing other goods, being investigated by NY District attorney) is now working for ACME VANLINES is enough warning bells for prospective customers to run as far away as they can from "ACME".

Please note Kirk Gillums has already been picked up thrice over the past month  by NYPD in relation to stolen goods from 24 familes who lay victims for his rogues moving business. People have damaged goods or missing items claims in the magnitude of $10K - $20K. Worst is he doesn't even file a claim with his insurance carrier so customers can get a part of the money back. He just betrayed and cheated the 24+ families who trusted in him. Send me a note if you want the NYPD Detective who is investigating this case.

NY District Attorny is now involved and considering to put him behind bars and use part of his wife's pension (ex-NYPD cop) to pay for "atleast part of the" loss and damage he has caused with criminal intent.

Bottom Line: Don't seek your help from a company hiring or doing business with criminal people.
