I was quoted 3491.00 by Global Moving Systems to move from Florida to Maryland. I chose this company based on the quote provided, a quote I was told was binding.  Living on a fixed income this figure was manageable, so I wouldn’t have to try myself.  The salesman stated they would pick up our furniture on June 26, 2018 and deliver Saturday June 30, 2018.  He never visited the house to refine his estimate and stated he overestimated and we would probably pay less.  My wife even called to add items to the list and only 2 things were added to the list, with no change in estimate.

The crew arrived on June 26th and started loading.  As the crew approached 25% loaded, the leader stated the salesman grossly underestimated, but could not provide a price.  I attempted to call my salesman John who stated we could reach him any time.  His phone went immediately to voice mail as did the number to the office.  Multiple calls were made, and messages left.  Salesman or manager never called back.

I was scheduled for Closing on my house on June 28, 2018 and was desperately trying to figure out if I should have them stop until I get a price, but they would not return any calls or answer.  Once loaded the driver advised the total was over 8200 requiring 5761 down.  We are now in the position of being stuck with our settlement in 2 days and our belongings on the truck.  It will require another 2469 to get my belongings back once transported.

The driver told me that the delivery would not be the 30th but would most likely be the 2nd of July.  My furniture did not come until July 9, 2018.  The crew charged me an extra $120 for a walk beyond 100 feet but did not have to reassemble or place anything since we were storing.  I did not get any price reduction for that.  I also did not receive several items, one being a new pressure washer that the delivery man said he saw in the warehouse, but the original crew forgot to mark as mine and parts to an industrial steel shelf that is now useless.

My wife and I made multiple attempts to resolve the misquote issue to no avail.  The owner was nasty and arrogant refusing to accept any liability for their incompetent employees.  The salesman misquoted this job by 235%!!!  Then the owner stated we would normally have to file a claim for lost property but her would do us a FAVOR and ship the pressure washer to us for free.  It was once again his company’s failure, yet he made it sound to us like he was doing a failure.  He also required us to sign a waiver for no future action against his company if he delivered the pressure washer.  If not, I would have to file with his insurance for $.60 cents a pound, about $30.00 for a 500.00 pressure washer.

These practices, I believe, verge on fraud and is a tactic just to get the contract.  Once your belongings are on the truck you are stuck because your house sale is in motion.  The driver could not provide a price during the loading and we couldn’t get 1 person to answer the phone, but they were able to provide an itemized estimate with current figures once loaded, that they require you to sign, basically stating you agreed with the estimate, but not the original estimate you used to select the company.

I have filed a complain with BBB of Clearwater that was closed because the company chose not to answer the BBB.  I have also filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General, the Federal Department of Transportation and Senators Rubio and Nelsons office in Florida.  If I do not receive my pressure washer by August 1, 2018, that I was told by the driver that he saw it in the warehouse, I will file a theft report.  I am also seeking legal counsel and will be putting articles in all newspapers in Florida.  I am retired, and I have never been so disgusted with a company.  I have the owner’s information and will be a thorn in their side until he makes restitution for his Company’s incompetence and his soulless greed!  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.  BBB has a consistent patter of this behavior from this company and owner.  Do not contract this company and spread the word about this fraud!!

The Company You Chose Is Not a Mover

You chose a moving broker.  Because you chose a broker, they could not have issued you a binding quote because they weren't the company that moved you.  They took your move and the price, and brokered it out for movers who would give you another quote once you got there.  If you don't understand, put the address for this broker in Google Maps and click on the picture.  You'll find no warehouse, no trucks in the parking lot, and no signage anywhere indicating a mover is located there.

The crew that then came to your home then quoted you the cost for performing the move.  I don't know how much stuff needed to be moved, but you were probably quoted in cubic feet.  That's another trick movers use to bump up your pricing.

Moving is not an inexpensive process.  It is entirely manual and highly labor intensive, with no ability to really automate anything.  Shopping on the internet for a mover is about the worst thing you could have done because you generally have no legal recourse against either the mover or the broker on this.
