Our 2003 Cadillac CTS needs support arms for the trunk. We purchased them at a local automotive parts store. They didn't fit. We then placed an order from a GMC dealership where we purchased the CTS.  They didn't match up either. They were about an half an inch too long. We asked about it. We were told that Cadillac GMC redesigned the after market parts so that now we needed, not only the $17 support arms, but we needed to buy the $80 hinges also.  Why should we have to replace perfectly good trunk hinges ?  This is done buy educated idiots who are designing rip off schemes.

I was right. You are wrong. We found an honest dealership that was able to get the Trunk Struts for just $77 and we did NOT have to purchase "re-designed" hinges.  So, why is it that GM couldn't or wouldn't come up with the replacement parts needed ? Because GM, as it turns out, is a Culture of Corporate Corruption.  Have you seen the news ? GM refused to do the right thing and recall the INFERIOR QUALITY ignition switches that had an INFERIOR QUALITY spring that CAUSED the MURDER of innocent kids.

I was able to find a dearlership that installed the needed trunk struts for a total cost of $77. Much less than the $400 scam GREEN Buick GMC was attempting to scam us out of. GM needs to do a much better job. We will Never Buy GM again.

Lujacks of the Qaud Citiies has attempted to cheat us numerous times with the Cadillac repairs.

But it is not the complaint you would expect.  When you went to the dealer they should have informed you before you just bought the support arms that you need to purchase the hinges as well.

So as for the part figure this out.  How many 2003 CTS's are still on the road.  Of those how many are going to need support arms?   If they were doing some grand "scheme" to rip people off..don't you think they would find easier ways?

You have a 10 year old car.  By your complaint you are saying one of two things.  That a company must continue to manufacture and carry inventory for the exact parts for their products forever or they are never allowed to redesign any parts.

By this logic, if you keep your car for another 30-40 years, GM must make and have in inventory every single possible part you may need in it's original form.    I imagine that you also would write a RipOff Report because RCA no longer carries the tubes for that TV you had in the 60's.

Here is probably what happened.  In the last 10 years they redesigned the part, and in order to make it compatible with previous years models they needed to make other adjustments.

I am sure that if you really want the original part you could push them to manufacture it for you.  But since the cost to make one or two is significantly more than it is to manufacture thousands, it would probably cost you much more than the extra $80.   Then of course what happens when the hinges eventually fail.
