GoldMax USA Almost ripped me off! Thank goodness I was suspicious. Columbus, Georgia
I normally go to another place to sell my jewelry but it was closed. Since GoldMax was open on Sundays, I decided to try it out. I showed up and the guy was very courteous, offered me water, gave me chocolates, and then inspected my jewelry. He put what he called "basic" metals aside saying that they were costume jewelry. He then said it was the company policy to make an offer of one penny per pennyweight of jewelry. I thought it was suspicious that they would buy useless jewelry so I didn't take the offer on my "costume" jewelry. He offered me about $100 for my precious metal jewelry, and I had quite a bit of gold. That didn't sound right to me because I've had jewelry appraised before and know how much it's worth. I sold it anyway. He then mentioned the costume jewelry to me again, measured it, and said he'd give me $.56 for it. I declined again. A few days later I took what he had labeled as junk and had it appraised at the place where I normally go. A local business that I'm a frequent customer of. They looked through it and said that I had $75 worth of precious metals. The guy at GoldMax made it seem like it was a big deal that they were going to pay for your "junk" jewelry but they steal from you by mixing in your REAL precious metal with costume. The guy was a smooth talker and seemed to know what he was talking about until I realized he was looking up what they buy from the company site! These guys receive a 2 day training course. They aren't chemists, and know nothing about precious metal. They're thieves.
