First of all, not all of their products originate in the Lower 48. Many are Alaska Native creations. Second, of course there are high shipping charges. Guess why? Don't blame, Goldsmith, blame USPS, FedEx, and UPS. They all charge additional fees to ship to Alaska and Hawaii. I have lived in Sitka for nearly four years, and I have adjusted to the idea of paying more there. It is the same with any small island community. Oh and to the tourists? We don't want you, or the shops you bring. Most of those tourist shops close in the winter anyway. Our fishing and other local industries could support us just fine without the idiots standing in the street taking pictures of the church, and causing accidents.
