I was told by these guys that I was guaranteed a federal government grant of $8,000-$25,000. I was very suspicious and asked a million questions, including their information, which they never fully gave me. I asked them to call back after I did some research, to which they said I was on an automatic dial system and they couldn't. I was told that they could not do anything with my account number w/o authorization.

Finally, I relented and gave it to them. But before giving authorization, I knew this was definitely not right and hung up on them. They called back, after saying they couldn't call back. I did not give them authorization, and told the guy to drop my information, but he replied that they couldn't drop it until they gave me a confirmation number. I told him I didn't want the confirmation number, drop all my information, don't ever call again, I would not pay the "processing fee" of $257 if it showed up on my account, and I would be reporting them immediately. He said he had all the information he needed, I don't have any of their information to report them, and very abruptly got off the phone.

I called my bank immediately to put a stop payment on this (but I don't know if it will actually be credited to me if the $257 is debited from my account), and also filed this report. These people have thick accents and names like Ann Jones and John Richards. DO NOT BE SCAMMED BY THEM!

Jen, you knew this was wrong! You had a feeling it was a scam! Yet, you went along and gave them your account number anyway. That's like putting your hand in boiling water. You know it's going to hurt, yet you do it anyway! Why? People could avoid all these frauds if they would just do two simple things. First, stop for a full minute and think about the deal before you jump in. And, second, if you have any doubts at all, walk away or hang up. Trust me, any deal that is good today will still be good tomorrow. This buy now crap is just a way to keep you from having the time to think. By the way, these frauds never have your complete bank information. They pretend to by reading you the first few numbers of your bank routing. But, the numbers they give you are the same on everybody's checks. That's why they need you to fill in the remaining numbers. Once you do that, they got you. In your case, expect to see the money taken out of your account. Now, you're gonna have to find the editor's explanation on getting your bank to reverse the charges. Then, you'll probably have to close the account. Hours of your time, and gas spent running around. All for nothing! So much for your big grant, huh?
