GET OFF THE PHONE WITH THEM. WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS ILLEGAL AND IT IS INTENDED TO SCARE YOU only - THEY CANNOT DO WHAT THEY HAVE THREATENED. IT COULD BE A SCAM TOO - there is an ongoing scam using the same tactics but are not collection agencies - just thieves out to steal your money. They usually have heavy accents but make the same threats. This could be a new twist on the scam with a new BOGUS company name. IF it is a legitimate collection agency - they are breaking the law. STILL STAY OFF THE PHONE - everything in writing certified mail return receipt (proof) www.budhibbs.com scroll down to dealing with debt collectors 101 and read how to protect yourself - Check state laws on statute of limitations and recording calls There are many posts referring people to this consumer advocate website that COLLECTION AGENCIES do not want you to know about! It exposes all the illegal tricks they use No Collection agency can make threats like that and they cannot just call a demand money or account information. THEY ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO PROVE THE DEBT IS YOURS! Certified Mail - Return Receipt. NEVER NEGOTIATE WITH DEBT COLLECTORS

I have the same Michael Bernstein harrassing my husband's elderly mother. He told her that my husband's job is on the line and they know where he works and if they have to go there and personally and drag his butt out they will do so. Who do we report this to? We have not yet spoken to this Bernstein fellow yet. He continues to leave messages on my mother-in-law's machine and other people he knew over 15 yrs ago but has yet to find our own phone number. What can be done?
