After waiting one hour in a literally freezing cold, block long line, at the Guitar Center Oakdale, MN Grand Opening during a recent mid Feb. where we were all led to believe there would be substantial, liberal discounts throughout the store in every dept.

I was, after about another hour, and in the heated store, during this first night opening, able to inquire about an 8 channel A/D>D/A converter for my music PC. I had inquired previously about this particular piece at another Guitar Center location. As such, I was armed with full knowledge of their everyday, out the door price on this piece. This was likely Feb, 2006

I asked pursuant to the claim advertising about liberal, and heavy opening night discounts across every dept., "How much is Joe's Brand A/D box" The parrot at the register says it will be not one dime lower than was already quoted previously on an attained quote.

i.e. every line of their claims were not only untrue, but also cost me a near heart attack (already had two) waiting in the cold freezing sleet, told basically a pack of lies, and wasted two hours time, and twenty dollars in gas, to hear I just wasted my time to apply for an advertised price reduction?

I have never returned since. To ANY Guitar Center.

Don't blame your health on the sale

The issue about your assumption of every item being on sale has already been addressed but I'd like to expand a bit. You assumed that your item would be on sale with no reason other than a wide advertisement of storewide savings. Anyone who has ever been to a store on a major sale days knows that not every item in the store is on sale; very often it is a select few. Had GC advertised that your particular item would be on sale and then did not follow through you would have a reasonable complaint but this does not seem to be the case. They did not advertise such a reduction - you assumed. If your were seriously worried about your heart issues being aggravated due to a long wait in the cold, why did you wait there in the first place? The grand opening events traditionally have a very long line, which you would have seen when you first decided to stand in it. Don't try to blame GC for any health releated issue that you brought upon yourself in an attempt to save a couple of dollars.

The thing to have done, was call in. Yes, this can be a pain...and sometimes they will refuse to give you a price unless you come in. Call again and again. Ask to speak to a manager. Unfortunately, due to the List-MAP agreements that exist in the industry, technically every item in the store is always on sale. This isn't "b.s." or "trickery" but merely a LONG standing (albeit outdated) policy. You know it's not a true "sale" but it is what it is. So unless you read/hear that your particular item of interest is on sale, you cannot assume that it will be. This is basics of ANY RETAIL STORE having a sale.
