Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My mom, a 74 year old senior citizen, was totally ripped off by Guy Scmidt Automotive when buying a new car. I went shopping with my mom to find a new car for her to be driven around to doctor's appointments etc. She wanted a good deal as she is a senior citizen on a limited income. They had a prior year, but new, Pontiac listing for $36,000 that they told us they would take a $10,000 price reduction on since it had been on the lot for awhile. My uncle went with my mom to purchase the car as she had cataracts and had trouble seeing and also is not too swift with numbers. After negotiating for awhile, they agreed apon a down payment of $7500 with a balance and total finance price of $20,000 with payments of $572.00 for 35 months. My uncle looked around at cars outside while they drew up the paprework and they then called in my mom to sign the paperwork. She was told her payments would be $572.00 like they agreed and signed the papers and my uncle drove the car home for her. No one thought to look at her paperwork as she had purchased several cars from them over the years and thought they were reputable. My mom then had to go for cancer treatments and needed to get a more comfortable car to drive in and wanted to trade in her sporty Pontiac and get a luxery car. We knew she was in good shape as the Pontiac should have been almost paid for in full. But when we took out the paperwork we were shocked to discover that instead of $27,500 and $20,000 financed, the actual purchase price was $37500 and yes her payments were $572 but not for the 35 mos that they had agreed on but for 59 months! Not only was her car not almost paid for, but she still owed over $24000 on a car only worth about $10,000! We were all floored!!!

I know that it is the person that is signing the contract's responsibility to read and make sure everything is correct before signing a contract but this was a 74 year old lady with cataracts! They had agreed on a price and payments beforehand. They showed her that she was making the same payments but didn't tell her that they had raised the price of the car $10,000 and added 2 more years worth of payments! Come on!!There is no way that could be a simple mistake on the part of the dealership! They committed fraud and totally ripped off an old lady. There is nothing lower than that!!

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

I worked for Guy Schmidt Auto Group back in late 90's early 2000's and I loved the employees and family owned dealership feel. I just don't understand the story this person is trying to explain. Let me get this right, your mother who has cataracts and has trouble seeing is buying a car??? Now just the sound of that is awkward its like your trying to post the "poor little old lady being taken advantage of by big bad auto dealer" when anyone with common sense would be scratching their head right now asking themselves,"why would she be buying a car when she is having vision difficulties??" Then you stated that someone else was their with her to sign the contract since she can't read so good due to these "VISION ISSUES". If there were any issues with the contract and this person was there going over the contract with your mother then why wasn't it caught? You would figure that the person reviewing the contract would have caught this since NUMEROUS areas of an auto contract are signed INCLUDING awknowledgement of the TERMS (INTEREST RATE, PAYMENT AMOUNT, NUMBER OF PAYMENTS,ETC.) I just don't believe this story. I feel like this is an attempt to ruin the good name of a dealership that I feel would have never been involved with such bologna! Sincerely, R Coates Former Employee
