Purchased TaxCut Deluxe PLUS State through OfficeMax.com. Loaded software with no problem and successfully completed my Federal Tax but then tried to use the State which had also successfully loaded, or so I thought. A box pops up asking me for the Install Key but since that tax filing was already part of the CD, none was available. I reloaded & updated the state tax program successfully but the same box kept popping up and you could not go further without entering that number.

I attempted to get an online resolution to this problem using their "live help" option but already at this early date, it was too busy to handle my request.

Their email option took 2 days for a response so I chose to call figuring it was an easy fix....but I had to do this on my cellphone which costs me minutes.

After explaining the situation, the CSR had to look everything up which took awhile and I had to delete the software and reinstall all the while on the phone wasting precious minutes.

That didn't work either and I was informed that the software was defective and I should return it to the store. I explained that I had purchased this online and the closest store was 30 miles away which was an expensive drive for something that should have worked to begin with.

The CSR informed me that they did not have a "generic" install key so I could use this software and that they would not allow me to download it from their website for free. My ONLY option was to return it even though the store is not at fault for this.

Because I needed my refund as quickly as possible, I chose to drive to the store to return it (with no problem at OfficeMax, by the way). Took it home but had now incurred an additional expense of 60 miles x 25 cents a mile (conservative cost).

Well, the SECOND CD was also defective so now I have software that won't work PLUS all the additional expense of the tech call and driving 60 miles to exchange it.

I have since returned the software to the address listed on this complaint with an itemized list of cost and an expectation that I be reimbursed for my additional costs plus the expense of the software including tax.

We'll see if my request is honored.

Today I received a call from H&R Block's Corporate office offering me a FULL refund + my expenses.....and a FREE copy of next tax year's program. It was admitted that they had some problems and that the company hired to do tech support was totally unsatisfactory and should have offered me one of the alternatives that I mentioned. The woman I spoke to was very apologetic and was very helpful but did mention it came to her attention due to my contacting the Attorney General's office. Because I had already received a check for the purchase price but not taxes or expenses, I told her I only expected a check for the difference.....I'm not trying to MAKE money off this.....but it often pays to complain!!

I've received a refund check for the purchase price ONLY....no state sales tax refund....no expenses paid....no explanation....no apology....nothing. VERY poor customer service. You'd think with all the bad publicity that H&R Block has had lately, they'd want to mend fences with the public. BOOOOOOOO.....hissssssssssssss I'm going to hold the check for now to see what the AG's office does.

STILL waiting for my refund....got tired of waiting and filed a complaint with the Michigan AGs office. We'll see what happens now.

I'm still waiting for a response and a refund for the H & R Block TaxCut Deluxe + State software and expenses. Maybe I have to get the State of Michigan attorney general involved!
