I went to Happiness is pets for a puppy for my 4 year old son. Amanda was the 'new' manager that helped me. She sold me a Schippereke. Since I was unfamiliar with the breed I asked her if the breed was good with children. She said oh yes they are very good with kids. I also looked at a Golden Retriever while I was there, but decided to get the Schippereke because my son wanted a black dog.

I brought the puppy home and she was extremely nippy. She would run up and jump on my son from behind and bite him in the back. I was reading up on the breed and on the internet one of this breeds names is Devil Dog. I also read that they are not good with children.

I called Happiness is Pets the next day and spoke to someone else and told her what happened. She said she would call the owner and get back to me which she did. They offered to trade her in for the Golden Retriever puppy. I was happy with that, even though I had to pay an additional 300 dollars.

So now we have had the Golden for 4 weeks and we are crate training her. She keeps urinating in her crate which I was told was pretty rare. I do let her out every 3 hours when I am home to go outside. Last night 3 hours after I let her out she peed all over her crate.. a lot of urine.

This morning I called the vet to see if she may have a UTI or bladder infection. They said to bring in a urine sample. The vet said there are crystals in her urine and put her on an antibiotic. Now I am nervous because of what I read here about dogs with Crystals in their urine from Happiness is pets.

My puppy is from Terry Glover in Melton, IA. Funny how I looked for him on the internet and there are no breeders in Melton, IA. I hope I didn't get one of the pups from that Steve guy.

We got our puppy from the Naperville Happiness is Pets in December 2007. She is 19 months now. We haven't had any major issues with her. She has had several skin infections. But that's common for the breed. She is great with our children. She is aggressive with our 11 year old smaller dog but I think that's a jealousy issue. She is fine with all other dogs too. Hope things are going well with your pup.

Consult your vets. This can be caused by many, many factors, and certainly some breeds, and some dogs, like some people are more prone. it is also not neccesarily genetic or congenital. While there may be some other underlying problems, here are some simple ways to help prevent crystals and such: prevent dehydration, this can be a factor. Filtered, fresh water, the chemicals and such in the tap water can be a factor. Sitting water can also cause other issues. Low stress and plenty of excercise. High stress and minimal excercise can be a factor. Diet is a MAJOR factor. Avoid commercial pet foods which are high in chemicals and such, and have high amounts of grain. (This also helps with allergies). I feed innova. I am wondering how many of these reports came out during the food recalls ........ Also, as most cats are prone to urinary tract issues, I found that adding some tomato juice seems to help lower the occurence (PH levels?). Do some research :-).

As someone awaiting the fate of their own puppy purchased from Happiness is Pets, I suggest that those who have had to be stuck with sick, or dead pets, ban together and file a class action law suit. Companies and businesses only learn from being hit in the wallet. I plan to talk to my lawyer as soon as I get my pup 100% thoroughly checked out tomorrow. We all have come to love our pets, but that doesnt give anyone the right to stick us with such a burdon both emotionally or finacially. As long as nothing is done, this will keep on going.
