Hertz Rent A Car ripoff overcharged my credit card charged me twice! Horrible company with dishonest policies and bad customer service. San Diego California
Do not rent from HERTZ!!! I am still in shock as to what they have done.
I rented a car from them on December 11th of 2004. I wanted the least expensive car that I could get. I asked for a subcompact.
Once I got there, they said that they would give me a larger vehicle at a better price - it was a Toyota Camry. I told them that I would be driving the car into Mexico.
The customer service rep said something to the effect of: "We cannot charge you twice for insurance, it's California State Law. Once you return the vehicle safely to the US, about $60 will be refunded to you for a total of" about $120-something...
Good enough, I thought. Reputable company and all- or so I thought.
When I dropped the car off, the guy took my keys and said "Bon Voyage!"
That's it?
"Yep, we've got it from here Mr. George."
Well that was just great. I was in a hurry, so I jumped on the shuttle and just barely made my plane.
Here is the thing: When I checked my credit card statement, they still charged me the full amount of $180-something.
Then, to add insult to injury, they actually charged me another $50 yesterday. I called their so-called customer service to find out why and all they could say was "miscellaneous charge."
In a nutshell: $230 for a Toyota Camry for about 36 hours. I did not "go over" in miles, as I had an unlimited miles contract. In addition, I returned the car with a half-tank of gas, but they still charged me $44 for fuel (part of the $180 charge).
Does that mean it takes $44 to fill half a Camry?!? I don't think so.
I will never use Hertz again and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. Horrible company with dishonest policies and bad customer service. Read all about them on the Rip Off Report.
