I need to make a comment about this company and all the misunderstandings that swirl around by people who don't know what they are talking about, what they are doing, or have some sort of an ax to grind.
First, this not for profit company does NOT modify loans, lenders do, your bank does....MAYBE.
This entire program is NOT an entitlement program and nobody can promise that you will get your mortgage modified, except for the bank, or lender...PERIOD.
OK, so what does the HLAA actually do?
READ THIS CAREFULLY:
1) They process the paper work that is required by lenders to have them review our information for a potential modification.
2) They follow up on a regular basis with the lender to move the process along and keep us updated through a unique computer program called 1st STATUS, which can be accessed by them, the lawyers, and us, the homeowner.
3) They make certain that the lender has all the documents they need to evaluate our situations, and come to a decision on whether or not we qualify for a modification.
4) They submit our files more than once EVEN IF THE LENDER TURNS US DOWN....one more time to cover all the bases for us.
5) They allow us to live our lives while they do the work, backed by a legal team that makes certain that the work is done legally and complies with all regulations, and gives us inexpensive legal backup for the processing to be done correctly!
6) THEY LISTEN, THEY TAKE MY CALLS, THEY WILL TAKE YOURS AND ANSWER EVERYTHING, EVEN IF ITS NOT THE NEWS YOU WANT TO HEAR.
7) They never claim to be miracle workers or have a special magic wand, to keep the bank/lender from foreclosing on our homes, NOR DO THEY PAY OUR MORTGAGE!!
What exactly is my point here??? Well, since everyone who dosent get a modification is not happy, they look for someone to blame....anyone....like the HLAA who simply does the work that we have decided we need help with....sort of like blaiming TURBO TAX for us having to pay our taxes!
As with any service business, there will be satisfied, as well as unsatisfied clients.
When the doctor tells you that you have lung cancer, after you've smoked for 50 years, you will NOT like what the doctor has to say.
When H&R Block tells you, you owe taxes, you won't be thrilled.
When you don't pay the mortgage on your home, and do not qualify for a modification, you could lose your home....they wont let you have the home for FREE folks. If you have the HLAA working with you, they might be the ones to tell you first!
You CAN expect to have a professional organization, work on your behalf, however, to make certain that your case is handled properly and processed timely, and updated regularly, backed by a network of lawyers, so that YOU do not have to go it alone, with the lenders/banks.
The HLAA has helped many, offer an incredible service in a thankless business, and should be THANKED, for the work they do!
I am a satisfied homeowner.

I'm a current client with HLAA. I paid $2750 for their services but it hasn't been worth it and I'm very close to losing my home. The originator of this thread points out some of the things that worry me, namely that the lawyer is in one state and my file is being processed in another. I'm not sure who the people are that are working with my case but they're not attorneys. I googled the name of the main person who is working on my file and I found his twitter account. He's a young man that looks to be no older than 19-20, and his twitters are all about how to make money fast.
I signed up with HLAA because the people pushing it here in my state are people I know and trust. But its been my assessment since then they've been taken in just as well. Basically the relationship between myself and HLAA these past six months has been of them asking me to fax in documents, they upload it for my review, and if I want to reply I can do so and it gets posted in my file.
They're supposed to be negotiating with the lenders but progress reports are few and far in-between. Meanwhile my lender is sending me foreclosure notices, etc. My overall feeling is that HLAA is not doing anything that I can't do for myself. I'm going to see my bank to see if there is anything I can do to get my money back but my advice for those of you who are contemplating signing up with the company is not to do it. Work directly with your mortgage company instead or go to the makinghomeaffordable.gov website but don't sign up for any modification company that collects a fee. You'll end up feeling like your sitting in the dark not knowing what the status of your modification is and meanwhile your home is being sold. It's better to deal with the mortgage company directly and know exactly where you stand.

Jason was right, I am a disgruntled contractor that worked with HLAA about 8 months ago. I left once my clients began losing their homes because Mark Zirogiannis stopped working on the files. I wrote this report to warn people of working with this company. I do not know if their new attorney is legit or not because I have not worked with them since we stopped our business, but I know what they did to my clients with the old attorney.
The law office never returned any phone calls from clients, and Mark Zirogiannis got arrested for mortgage fraud.. how can you trust a company like that? Look up Mark Zirogiannis on google you will see for yourself.
Don't let these smooth talking kids trick you into signing up with them. Im sure they have done some good for some people.. but what about all the people that lost their homes? they wont put their information up.. only the good ones they want you to know about.
Maybe this new attorney is doing the right thing, I couldn't tell you, but I know my experience with HLAA and Mark Zigogiannis and it was horrible.
These people are money hungry then and im sure they are now. They do not care about the homeowners, they care about their pocket.
I have spoken to a few other organizations that worked with HLAA and they all say the same thing that I wrote in my first report. I would be cautious before signing up with this organization.
They do not take a single dollar from clients, they let the attorney Mark Zirogiannis take the money and then the attorney pays them. Its a three card monte trick.
I signed up as a contractor to market for 1st Amerisave and HLAA about 1 year ago and all of my clients that we signed up lost their homes with Mark Zirogiannis.. Fair warning to all who wants to take this risk.. they do not care!

I'm a consumer who has been taken by other companys that offered loan modifcation, until now those companys has not responded. I took another risk to go with this company HLAA, to my surprise, they were able to stop my auction sale date about 6 times. With there help, I finally received my trial date and in the process for my second trial payment. I'm not sure what has happened with that other person but with the support that HLAA has provided and willing to help me thru the process, I'm able to keep my home with an affordable payment.

Dear Client(s): My name is Jason Saltzman and I am an officer of the Homeowners Legal Assistance Association, the HLAA. I would like to urge anyone who is considering using our service to PLEASE READ THIS RESONSE . The HLAA is a not for profit company that works with attorneys and processing companies throughout the country to help Americas homeowners. We have never taken a dollar from a single client! We are experts in all Federal guidelines, including the Financial Stability Act and the Home Affordable Mortgage Program, and place clients in touch with attorneys that can help them. Applying for mortgage mitigation can be a daunting and intimidating task for a homeowner and the HLAA recommends getting a legal counsel from a qualified attorney. I would like to address all the claims that this anonymous person has posted. I welcome any prospective client to come by our office and see the good work we are doing to save peoples homes. Talk to any of the people that we work with and I think you will all see they are very proud of the work that we do here! Many times people file complaints under a variety of different circumstances: disgruntled employees, competitors, or just people that are not happy in general. It has recently been brought to our attention that the actual author of this anonymous posting was written by a former contractor that was terminated as a result of his attempt to steal internal trade secrets and client lists. This individual attempted to steal our proprietary software and client list in order to start a competing company on his own. We have proof of this attempt to steal both the software and business which violates his agreement with our organization and therefore has banned them from using our services and has subjected himself to potential litigation for breach of contract and commercial slander. Any organization that deals with the amount of clientele that we deal with, especially in this complaint ridden type of industry, faces these type of issues. We stand by our product, our level of quality control and we have always had a liberal refund policy for any client that is not satisfied with our services. Our current company has never had 1 credit card chargeback! The company 1stAmeriSave, that he alludes to, was actually my first company but was solely a sales office and its doors have been shut down for over a year. Even so, we felt , as we still feel , that for many reasons people that are going through this type of situation need legal representation. At the time we went through a detailed search for an attorney that we could trust to get the job done and treat our clients fairly! Marc A Ziorigiannis presented us with an opportunity to offer affordable legal services for those who need it. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to us Marc had many other serious things occurring in his life that after months of working together to do great work for our clients all of a sudden severely affected his companies work. Every single client signed up with his law offices directly and the HLAA or any non lawyer affiliate has never taken a dollar from a single client. Although, it was their responsibility and fiduciary duty to service the clients they abandoned us all! Rather than close up shop, I scrambled to start a new company to sign on other attorneys (angels!) and processors to help the clients in need. As we stated previously, the Law Offices of Marc Ziriogiannis were the ones that received all fees and servicing all the clients was entirely their responsibility and obligation. I took on the daunting and expensive task and was able to provide a solution for hundreds of clients that would have otherwise been totally abandoned. That is the reason for the transfer letter mentioned in previous post. The post also makes other claims about the quality of our services. We stand by our services 100% and are sure that if you ask any of our many people that we work with they are very proud to work with our company. The staffs of all of our attorneys are highly trained and experienced. In fact each one is subjected to internal training along government guidelines on a weekly basis. Ages range from 24 to 62 and include lawyers, mortgage processors, paralegals, secretaries, assistants and more. We are very strict with our hiring requirements and make sure that we are overstaffed to ensure the quality of our processing. I urge anyone who is looking into our company to please take these accusations with a grain of salt. Give us the opportunity to show you and to prove to you our mission and our services. With every week that passes we obtain a substantial amount of successful modifications reducing the monthly payment due to lenders from our clients. To just name a few: Norb C.: $999.11 to $527.00 Reynaldo V.: $1235 to $951.65 Brian S.: $3550.79 to $1678.04 Gus C.: $3337.57 to $2442.67 Fred C.: $3314.48 to $1574.20 Come in and we will show you first hand these examples and even show you many, many more! An accusation like this is unfortunate but as always we are not going anywhere. Many companies in this business set up and are now long gone, but we are still here and doing better than ever. We are here to answer to any complaints and continue working for our clients. If you are a real client and you have a legitimate concern please contact me. We are here to help. I want to thank you for reading this response. It is a shame when someone slanders you especially when it is malicious, inaccurate and motivated by a hidden agenda. Thank you for reading the response and I encourage anyone with a great experience with our company to post your remarks! Unlike the anonymous individual who make these false claims and accusations without contact info or even a name, I am here to answer any concerns. You can contact me anytime!
