Two weeks ago my family, along with my sisters' families spent the weekend in Louisville. On Saturday night we had dinner at Hooters in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

My husband was feeling generous and decided to pay for everyone's meal. The bill came to $146.52. I handed the waitress my credit card and $75, with instructions to charge $100 of the bill to the card and use the cash for the remaining $46.52. I then told her she could keep the remaining cash as a tip.

I received my credit card statement on Thursday and noticed that the entire $146.52 had been charged to the card. I phoned Hooters on Friday morning and they told me they were too busy to deal with it and I would have to call back Monday. I called back on Monday and spoke with the manager. After explaining the situation to him, he very rudely told me that they would not reverse the charge because I had signed the sales slip. Now, I admit that I didn't notice the amount of the charge on the slip... I trusted that the waitress had done what I asked. However, I still believe that they owe me a refund of $46.52. Unfortunately they are unwilling to make it right. I hope our waitress enjoyed her $75 tip.

LOL i had the worst day at work and reading your report just made my day!!!! LMAO I can't stop laughing! You signed the credit card receipt....and now you want $75 back??? LOL I'm in tears! First of all....lay off the beer. If you did that then maybe you wouldn't see double and would actually see what you are signing! You have no case! You signed the credit card receipt for the full amount!!!! Why would you do such a stupid thing and THEN ask for the money back??? And then you write on here that you were ripped off....WOW what a joke!!!!! The waitress enjoying her $75 tip...yep because of your stupidity! You will NEVER see that money again and i feel so good for the waitress because you failed as a consumer! You displayed what I call "airheadedness..." You gave your credit card, it was swiped, and you signed. Now you want to dispute, call the Manager, call people rude...all for your ignorance! You signed your name to a charge that was invalid! And you want to blame everyone and their mother for it....that needs to stop! Blame yourself! Why would you sign for something that is not valid? Can you read numbers? If so where is your validation? Lay off the booze and take responsibility for your actions as a consumer. If you can't then there's always Alcoholics Anononymous for support :-P

Always check your receipt before leaving the restaurant

Always check your receipt before leaving the restaurant. Once you sign on the dotted line, you are in effect agreeing to the charge as well as the terms and conditions of your credit card payment agreement, and you cannot dispute the charge with your credit card company later. Lesson learned. Have you considered going back to Hooters to talk with your waitress directly? Perhaps a little face-to-face discussion could immediately clear up any "misunderstanding" ..

No, because any time I go out I count my change five times cause I happen to like my hard earned money." Then these girls would have had to modify the "total" field on the receipt unless this customer didn't fill it out. She should also have had a copy for her own records.

You certainly do not deserve any refund at all because as a consumer, its your responsibility to clearly read everything you sign. You shouldn't expect people to be honest with your money just because its their job. I've met girls who tip themselves when the tip slot is left blank and then signed by a customer who already tipped them in cash. Do I feel bad for those customers? No, because any time I go out I count my change five times cause I happen to like my hard earned money.
