Complaint Review: Hosea Mutai - North Richland Hills Texas

Hosea Mutai/ Rift Valley Investments rented to my husband and I a house in Venus Texas. The house was in horrible condition when we first looked at it. It was filthy, spiders and roaches crawling all over, the beige carpets were stained and soiled heavily. The ceiling in the living room was caved in by the kitchen entrance exposing the attick, wiring, and ferral cats living in the attick. The house smelled of urine, fecies and rotten food. The floors were unleveled and giant cracks ran down the walls in every room. The kitchen was so outdated and had electrical plugs in the ceiling. ???? It was the absoulute worst house ive ever seen. It looked as though it should have been condimed. 

After seeing our disgust and uninterest, David, Hosea's brother promised us that the house was under remodeling construction and it would not be ready for 2 more weeks because they were fixing every single issue i previously stated i had concern about. He also said they were exterminating, cleaning the carpets and the home. So with desperate circumstances leaving us desperate for a place to live, we reasoned that if the repairs and cleaning were done it wouldnt be so bad. We agreed to take the home.

2 weeks past, move in time, they have already recieved a $600.00 deposit, $480.00 prorated rent and last months rent of $700.00, totaling $1780.00 we arrived to find that most of the repairs done were cheap, short term rigging. After 10 or more calls to the office getting no answer we were stuck and decided to do the carpet cleaning ourselves as well as cleaning and sanatizing the home, we had to set of bombs to kill the insects. In all costing us around an additional $500.00. WOW was i furious.

We lived in Hosea's house for alomost 4 years literally watching this house fall down around us. Every time we asked him to repair something it was a big deal, lie after lie after lie, excuse after excuse after excuse and the repairs never got done. He would send his other tenants out to repair things, promising them he would take it off their rent !!!!! These were no where close to reapir men nor did they have the skills needed for the jobs. When the kitchen sink got stopped up he sent a man out to dig a water run off into the city of venus water side in the ditch!!!

He had some guys come out to level the house and it was the same as when they left with the exception of the 8 foot holes they left all around the foundation of my house. DANGER we could have fell in and broke our arms, come to find out they crushed the pipes in the kitchen and thats why the sink started not draining. Hosea Mutai is a liing, cheating, sorry excuse for a human being. He has no right being able to rent to familys and not keeping his houses up to code. We paid him faithfully for that 4 years and got nothing in return but an old run down shack to live in with the roaches.

As soon as our income situation allowed us to go, we did. We called the City Code Enforcer out of concern for Hosea renting this house to another finacially desperate family. When he found out he called us all kinds of names, lied to law enforcement about his illegal repairs, blamed the condition of the house on us tearing it up. And had the nerve to tell me he would send me a bill for the cleaning!!!
