I received a curious email from a "James Gordon" about a position as a "Financial Manager". My employment history does not really lend itself for an opportunity in a postion with that title but I chose to respond. I was curious.

I wrote to James Gordon and he wrote back proposing an online interview. I will post now the messages I got from Mr Gordon.

Hello!

My name is James Gordon, I am the manager of House of Art Development Company. Our company is looking for personnel for the position of Financial Manager. I reviewed your resume on Careerbuilder.com and decided that you are a proper candidate for this post. The job I want to propose is not difficult and can be performed as additional work for your regular job.

Requirements:

1. To spend time in internet minim two hours a day.

2. Ability to spend no less than two hours a day to perform money operations with your bank.

Our company works with remote clients and many of them, when pay for their order to our executives, prefer to pay via wire or ACH transfers. Many customers use these systems as their bank accounts belong to companies and orders are often corporative. Many order executives are individual employers and it is suitable for them to receive moneygram transfers or transfers on their personal accounts in other countries. So we looks for personnel who can represent interests of both sides, make statistics and deal with documents. Besides, you will have training with our managers of personnel training and you will learn all work details and how to behave with clients if necessary. You will get your personal virtual room in our website and we will teach you rules of use and how to manage with every deal among customer and order executive.

To start work you should write a confirmation to my e-mail: [email protected]

After this you can register on our web-site, then Ill make an access to your personal room in our web-site and explain all details and nuances of the work. After this you will sign a contract and then you can earn your first profit during first week after contract signing. Also you always can ask questions to me: (323) 284-5175

Go to www.art-development.biz to study our companys activity.

You salary - from $2,000.00 till $3,000.00 in the first month, your profit will be formed from number of deals you take part and the main profit factor depends on clients stream. That why I cannot guarantee you a high income in first months, but as statistics says $2,000.00 - $3,000.00 this is a minimum which you will have in your pocket on average.

Yours sincerely,

James Gordon

The work of an our financial manager. As the basis of our service is to provide deals on the Internet we need financial manager all over the world. Attracting clients from different corners of the world we should have our agents everywhere so that to be able to provide instant solutions (in-state bank transfers take no more than a few hours). We engage new technologies to deal with the e-document exchange, which make the process reliable and safe. Our service only deals with the paperwork, leaving the financial part (accepting funds on your personal bank accounts from the buyers, and routing them to the sellers according to our instructions afterwards) for you. We cant shoulder the financial responsibility because in today's world of extremely fast solutions it is time that is of extreme importance to our clients. Having an financial manager in every country we can quickly transfer funds inside the country without wasting time on the international bank transfers, and continue our rapid growth rather than overwhelming our own bank account with inbound and outbound transactions leading to severe hold times and probably service interruption. Your main task will be accepting money transactions on your personal bank accounts and routing them to other bank account, according to our instructions. You will benefit from the commissions, which are 5-7% of every transaction and depend on the quantity of completed transactions and the speed of your work. For your convenience there will be no paychecks, your commission will remain in your account, which is activated after your registration, after every successfully completed transaction. The cost of money transfer is not included in your commission, meaning you will deduct it from the amount to be sent, not your commission. And you receive 5-7% of the amount of the transaction. Normally the amounts that we process vary from $5,000 to $35,000, but can go higher on special occasions.

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:09:00

Types of Transactions. The main type of transactions as far as the financial part is concerned are direct bank transfers - ACH, cheques and wire transfers . There is one more way - to deal with the old-fashioned checks, but we are cautious about it and usually require upfront approval from you before proceeding with this method. So in brief, you can make money transfer of any type of listed above.

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:09:00

Protection from Fraud. Due to the nature of our business we have to aggressively struggle against fraud and spot it at the earliest stages to manage to provide continuity and safety. We treat the security of our agents, clients and our own one seriously! We screen out potential clients by means of the most robust and complicated screening systems, including but not limited to TeleCheck (verifying funds availability on the written checks as well as previous positive payment history - only in case of check originated transaction), ChoicePoint (verifying client's personal information) and LexisNexis (revealing previous criminal activities).

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:09:00

Taxation . According to US laws you are not required to pay taxes on bank transactions. If you insist we can prepare and file all tax documents with the IRS at the end of fiscal year.

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:09:00

Please read closely and I am waiting for your any questions

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:09:00

Basically youll receive remittances from our customers, take your commissions and send the rest according to our instructions to our employees

Mark MacNamera 2007-11-14 12:12:00

So this would require me to have a bank account? If so I must tell you that I do not have a bank account of any kind at this time.

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:13:00

you can receive ACH transfers to your credit card. have you credit card?

Mark MacNamera 2007-11-14 12:14:00

No I do not.

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:14:00

open bank account then

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:14:00

Washington Mutual www.wamu.com Wells Fargo www.wellsfargo.com Have you these banks in your area? Can you open an account in these banks? (Wells Fargo is more prefer)

Mark MacNamera 2007-11-14 12:16:00

Yes we do have those banks here but I am not really into opening a bank account.

James Gordon 2007-11-14 12:16:00

you need to have bank account to receive transfers from our clients

Mark MacNamera 2007-11-14 12:18:00

That is unfortunate. I thank you for your time Mr Gordon.

OK call me crazy but this in no way sounds above board to me in any way at all. It sounds almost like a 419 type Nigerian letter scam to me. I could be wrong though. Yet when I googled House of Art Development I found nothing on them other than the site they had already directed me to. I also googled the people in the "contact" area of their web site and found zero info on any of them. Add in the very casual attitude in regards to taxation and really this whole scenario is screaming scam to me. If anyone has any info in regards to this outfit I would be most curious to hear what you have to say.

I logged back into my House of Art Development account so that I could alter my "profile". I noticed you can change anything on your profile that you like except for your address and phone number. Odd. I am not really worried about it since I did give them a address I made up but they do have my cell phone. That does not really concern me though. Funny thing is that while logged in I received a message via the instant messanger interface they have on their site from one Jim Gordon. Strange that being police commish in Gothom City and working along with Batman still allows him the discretionary time to speak with me. I feel so fortunate. Here is our brief dialog: James Gordon 2007-11-15 09:20:00 you are not unterested in, right? Mark MacNamera 2007-11-15 09:33:00 what do you mean? Fake jobs are one the most common types of 419 scams. Its a good thing you were too smart to fall for . Most often the "Lads" will either send the victim fake a or stolen check. The victim then does his "job" and sends the Lad the money via Western Union or Moneygram. Then when the when check bounces the victim is on the hook for the money.
